"Asking them if they were thinking of ending their life was the last thing I wanted to do, because it felt like it risked showing them a glimpse of rock bottom. But I knew it’s what I had to do". CoLiberate's General Manager superstar, Grainne Patterson has written a beautiful essay in the Spinoff - give it a read. If you're seeking a way in your own words to ask someone you care about if they're feeling suicidal, book one of our renowned MHFR skills training courses. https://lnkd.in/g7uZdbJ

Kia ora. We are Bop and Sarah - we are co-leading CoLiberate to ensure everyone has a trusted someone in their life who can notice when they are not doing okay, and can reach out to help them connect with the right support. We do this by building confidence through our skills training courses and enabling workplaces to be robust ecosystems of care. We have such an epic team working alongside us to make this happen. We are blessed to call two/fiftyseven our home turf - a caring and connective place where we can work hard and giggle even harder. It's where Sarah Booher also happened to catch us in the moment of both. As we race to the end of this calendar year, we are making time to reflect on what 2023 has been and ambitiously plan big for 2024. Let's goooo!

CoLiberate reposted this
I recently completed the Mental Health First Response course with CoLiberate. I've been lucky enough to do this course before with CoLiberate. This time around I got to see how it has evolved into a wonderful set of tools I found myself using, unbelievably, within three days of finishing the course. I was so grateful for the recent refreshing of my skills. The world is heavy at the moment. A lot is going on out there and inside all of us. These last two years for me have included a lot more crisis response than I imagined they would. I have walked alongside people in many different situations with many different needs and feelings. Courses like these mean I am more capable of that work, of that care. It has been fundamental in my life. I am so grateful for all the people at CoLiberate and the work they do. Talking about our mental health means talking about the hard and painful bits. I find it challenging to talk about the ways suicide and suicidal ideation have affected my own life and others' lives. Sometimes that means it is extremely isolating! I know the message to reach out is often absent all the reasons why it is hard for people who are struggling and puts the onus on them. But for those of us who are not struggling, who have the energy, and who notice a change, we can reach out! Perhaps you could consider getting your workplace to offer this training. It's powerful and it can help us reach out to others when they may not be able to reach out to us. Human connection is powerful in these times.

As we roll into the end of the 2023 calendar year, we are taking time to reflect on what the year has been for CoLiberate and of course, celebrating our mahi and impact! Three thousand caring humans in Aotearoa and across the world (thanks to our online delivery!), out there noticing when someone may be having a hard time, and being brave enough to reach out to have a supportive conversation. Every conversation counts - and you never know when it could make the biggest difference! Thanks to all the people who have invested in us this year to provide training for your people - we love delivering MHFR and hearing how much it has shifted team dynamics, built functional and effective eco-systems of support and care and contributed towards better mental health outcomes! Also, thanks to our epic team for showing up every week in new environments! Let us rest now until 2024 when we do it all again! #workplacetraining #MHFR #mentalhealthfirstresponse #culturechange #ecosystemsofsupport #cocare

Kia ora RBNZ - we’re proud to call you a partner client. Thank you for standing up for your efforts to be a better partner with te tiriti
Tau kē Te Pūtea Matua! Awesome to see this Government agency using their voice and clearly outlining their position on the use of Te Reo Māori. Hopefully the first of many Central Government agencies who will hold strong on their commitment to the names they currently carry and the strategies that they have been implementing towards building a better future for Aotearoa. Kia kaha Adrian Orr and Christian Hawkesby! Hawkesby's words from his presentation on the 6 May 2021 remain relevant, particularly his section titled Ki Te Ao Mārama (https://lnkd.in/d_7B7q8K). One thing that these leaders have achieved is forcing individuals and businesses to be clear on where their values sit. Are we looking at what matters for future generations koutou mā, or are we distracted by the abrupt short term swings of political cycles? Interested to see how much integrity sits behind the strategies/direction of other agencies and how much respect they have for those kaumatua who gifted those names and had input into the strategic directions.

Congrats Stephanie - great to have you in the room!
Proud to be a Mental Health First Responder. This workshop by CoLiberate has given me the skills to identify when someone is in mental distress and be best able to listen, validate and help connect them with the right support. It's always been important to me to lend a friendly ear to colleagues. It's not about fixing a problem for someone, it's to allow them to talk about what's going on. It's not always an easy conversation, but we need to keep talking. And listening. It's so important 💙 Grateful to Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency for the opportunity.
