On Tuesday, we celebrated World Car Free Day by swapping our car keys for bike helmets, bus passes, and running shoes! Our staff who shook up their commute not only got to enjoy a coffee on Cosgroves as a reward, but also reduced their carbon footprint. 🌱 Small initiatives like this remind us of the importance of collective power—when over one-third of our team opted for a car-free commute, it showed how simple changes can make a big impact. Let's keep pushing for greener choices every day. Next year, we hope to see Alan Callery actually ride a Penny Farthing to work!

And that wraps up our volunteering for 2024, another great success! Auckland undertook their volunteering day last week for The Whau River Catchment Trust. Cutting trees down, clearing shrub and planting trees was hard mahi for the team, but they smashed it. The Whau River Catchment Trust work for healthier streams and rivers throughout the Auckland region with the help of the community. We are proud to align ourselves with an organisation that makes an impact in the community. Looking forward to volunteering 2025 🌳

We developed our Tahi Star Award in May 2023 with the aim to recognise our staff that truly exemplify our Tahi and our core values; make an impact, future-focused, collective power and people first. It's always impressive to read the nominations that come through and it certainly makes for plenty of deliberation within our Executive meetings. Our winner for the July/August period went to Will Thompson who has gone above and beyond on a range of projects. He has ensured deliverables were met and has shown great initiative. Will has stepped into unfamiliar territory and taught himself new ways of working with IES simulation. Well done Will, this is well deserved ✨

Its that time of the year again, where we present our Cosgroves Scholarship to an outstanding student from Wakatipu High School in Queenstown. Each year we receive a high number of excellent applications, and this year proved no different. This year marks the 5th recipient of the scholarship, and we’re proud of the impact it has had on aspiring engineers so far. We were honoured to present the scholarship to Tom Schenk of Wakatipu High School. Tom intends to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Canterbury (UC), commencing 2025. Tom has a natural mathematical ability, currently tracking towards an A+ on a UC Calculus paper (MATH199) and is recognised as a true leader amongst his peers. In 2022 Tom completed his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and is working towards his Silver.  He has quite an impressive extra-curricular repertoire too, having volunteered at various local community outreaches and currently undertaking training for the 2025 Coast to Coast 2-day race. Congratulations Tom - well deserved! We can’t wait to see your journey and development in engineering.

We are excited to welcome Jeremiah N. who has joined our Auckland Civil team. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer with 12 years of experience. Jeremiah completed his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and graduated with Honours from the University of the Philippines. He also completed another bachelor's degree in Environmental and Sanitary Engineering at the Technological Institute of the Philippines. Since moving to New Zealand in 2016, he has contributed to several projects across the country and completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Engineering at the University of Auckland. His passion for engineering is fuelled by a love of STEM subjects, particularly math and physical sciences. He enjoys working on land development and infrastructure projects, especially those that positively impact communities. Jeremiah finds fulfilment in being involved in projects where he can see the direct results of his efforts. Outside of work, Jeremiah’s time is devoted to his family, especially his wife and kids. When he gets a moment to unwind, he enjoys playing the piano and guitar. What Jeremiah values most about working at Cosgroves is the balance between office presence and the flexibility to work from home. He believes this balance supports both professional productivity and personal well-being. We’re fortunate to have Jeremiah on our team, contributing his passion and expertise to every project he undertakes

The University of Otago Christchurch Campus Redevelopment Project is a new six-storey medical education and research building on Oxford Terrace in the heart of the health precinct.   The building houses a number of specialist functions from student learning spaces on the lower floors, to clinical spaces open to the public and highly specialised medical research and science laboratories.    "Progress on site is moving full steam ahead," says WAM Project Principal Hayley Fisher. "The structure is rising rapidly, revealing the scale and complexity of this significant build. The extensive volume of reinforcing steel is particularly impressive. We've recently observed the installation of the upper steel work, a key milestone as the floors and overall structure take shape. We look forward to seeing the internal partitions start to define the internal layouts and watching the facades enclose the structure."   We’re proud to be part of a collaborative team bringing this new facility for the University of Otago's Christchurch campus to life. People First is a key value at Cosgroves, it contributes to the foundation of who we are. We're committed to fostering personal and professional growth within our team across the business and we believe it is particularly important to empower our young professional with the resources and guidance they need at the start of their careers. And so, our Emerging Professionals working group was established! 🚀 Last week, the group kicked off with an engaging discussion afternoon, covering essential topics like navigating scope changes and key takeaways for thriving in a graduate role. This initiative is a true reflection of our commitment to putting people first and nurturing the future leaders of Cosgroves!
