You could say this week’s Drool Over Tools Tuesday is a catch 🎣 This thing right here is an alpha boxfish drone. Not to be confused with its mate, the yellow boxfish, which can be found in the Pacific Ocean 🐠 The alpha boxfish drone helps the team clean the intake screens in our dams and inspect and keep an eye on our underwater assets. What’s an intake screen you ask? It’s the first thing that our water goes through before it heads off to a water treatment plant. It’s a big job, but as the saying goes, somebody’s got to do it. While it doesn’t have fins or a tail, the alpha boxfish drone does have 8 3D-vectored thrusters, meaning it can move in all directions. It also has a good lighting system, we’re talking 10,000-lumens, which is needed cos’ it can travel to depths of 300 metres. It has a 4K front camera, which gives the team clear footage of what is going on down below. Oh, and sensors too! To complete the intake screen cleaning, the team work in pairs - one person operates the drone from the control station while the other person rolls out the communication line. Once the boxfish is in place, it uses a rotary cleaning brush to clean out the intake screens and voilà, job done. No wonder we like this fish in and out of the water👍 #WaterIndustry #Auckland #Teamwork #Team #Tools #Mechanical #Engineering #Electrical #Tech #Operations #Innovation #Drone #Sensors #Fish

What you choose to walk past, or in our case, dive past - is the standard you set. As we deliver our services and execute in alignment with our values, we have seen opportunities to create solutions that will enhance the mauri of our water, restore biodiversity and regenerate ecosystems that are integral to our health and wellbeing. The salvage project was first phase of this - removing vehicles and hazardous debris from the Waikato Awa. Second phase has been the development of regenerative infrastructure, scientifically designed and manufactured to provide refuge for native species, capture carbon and counteract the effects of developments and climatic events that impact biodiversity. The future of freshwater and marine technology is creating regeneration for the next generation - Peara is coming soon. Salvage is a specialist sport and we are excited to continue our project with some great partners coming on board to help us get the job done. Shout out to Jeremy O'Rourke for backing the salvage and caring enough about what’s beyond the surface. Environmental intelligence and consciousness is a beautiful thing. https://lnkd.in/grmvAyad
The Deep Dive Division Waikato Awa salvage is gearing up with 6 key sites identified and project partners aligning to provide specialist expertise and support. Salvage is a specialist sport and as kaitiaki of freshwater and marine environments throughout Aotearoa with our commercial and scientific dive capabilities - this project is close to home and allows us to restore and protect our tupuna awa.
