Design Assembly is the home of Aotearoa New Zealand design – bringing New Zealand’s designers together as a community.
About us
The home of Aotearoa New Zealand design since 2009. Since being established Design Assembly has become the home of New Zealand design –providing a collaborative digital and physical platform for kiwi designers to learn, keep up-to-date and be inspired. In 2019 Design Assembly celebrated 10 years. Over this decade, we’ve got to know our own incredibly talented and passionate New Zealand design community, and along the way with the help of our community we’ve gathered the insights and ideas that have contributed to many great conversations about what goes on here, how it happens, and why it matters. With thousands of visitors each week to the website, sell-out workshops, interviews and a nation-wide event series, Design Assembly provides a safe and positive environment to share knowledge, experiences and challenges – where designers can connect with their peers as well as support others and learn; a chance to up-skill in workshops – tailored for kiwi visual designers. Why we exist: Design Assembly is the home of Aotearoa New Zealand design – bringing New Zealand’s designers together as a community. Mission: Design Assembly supports Aotearoa New Zealand’s design community to inclusively connect, educate and inspire each other. Our Values: - Inclusivity: Everyone is welcome at every age and stage. - Diversity: We want to inspire every visual designer on their individual journey. - Safety: Design Assembly provides a safe and positive environment to share knowledge, experiences and challenges. - Celebration: Showcasing, sharing and celebrating NZ visual design in all its diversity. - Community: Design Assembly provides unique opportunities for visual designers to connect with and support each other.

Many of us find ourselves at a crossroads, feeling individually and collectively that design, Aotearoa, and the world at large, are all at a critical turning point. This spring, Design Assembly presents Design & New Horizons, a theme set to explore that which exists beyond our line of sight – past the immediate and the obvious. Together, we will examine, discuss and expand our individual and collective ideas about design – What is it? What could it be? Where does its value lie now and into the future? – at events and workshops in Tāmaki Makaurau, Pōneke, Ōtautahi and online. Interviews with forward thinkers and project and process case studies published on the Design Assembly website will inspire and challenge you to think beyond today. Find out how you can get involved and explore Design & New Horizons here: https://lnkd.in/gxR73w9y Thanks to our friends at Phantom for this awesome visual identity!! SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium once featured a tactile experience where children could colour in a picture of a fish, scan it and see it appear in a projected underwater world. Although the experience remained popular with kids, it was outdated and faced ongoing maintenance challenges. So, Kelly Tarlton’s enlisted Method, a creative technology studio to modernise the experience. Glide into the design detail of Art Aquarium — an awe-inspiring experience created by the bright minds at Method: https://buff.ly/3Z6nxEK #Kellytarltons #method #creativetechnology #artaquarium #digitaldesign #designassembly Method (NZ)
