A huge thank you to everyone who came along to our Becoming Cyber-Resilient event last week, it was a fantastic session packed with valuable information. The main takeaway - burying our heads in the sand when it comes to cybersecurity is not going to work. Start with something small - you can’t solve security in one day, but it's a journey you should be taking your business on today. Thanks to NSP for sponsoring the event, and to our wonderful MC Jennie Vickers and knowledgeable panelists Geordie B Stewart MSc CISSP, Robyn Campbell, Sam Shute & Denise Carter-Bennett.
Last night Peter Sing and I attended EMA's Cyber Security Event - Becoming Cyber Resilient 🔐 Loads of information shared across the panel but some key take aways for me were: 🖥 In NZ, an attack can only take 72 minutes to disrupt your business & most start on Friday evening of long weekends 🌐 Globally, companies can take up to 240 days to realize they have been compromised. That's 8 months worth of company data, client/customer information and IP to be lost or traded to competitors! ⌨ Having proper off-boarding processes are key to disconnecting employees who are leaving the business. Most breaches come from disgruntled ex-staff 💻 Cyber Insurance can cover you for costs due to an event, however your brand & reputation may not recover equally 🖱 Have a dedicated "Guest Wifi" network and regularly review who has access to what internally to determine if they still need 'admin' rights Thanks to Sabrina Justen for sharing the event with us! #NowWeWork #GreaterTogether #CyberSecurity #ITEvent #NetworkingEvent

It's easy to get complacent... It's easy to think you've heard it all before... It's easy to think, "It'll never happen to me" ... And just at that point Murphy's Law strikes... along with a Hacker. I live in the technology space, I attend regular Security Briefings because it is always changing, always evolving, as the type of attacks are always evolving as defenses are created to thwart them. It's part of my job, my work to stay on top of it, but if your a Business Owner who isn't in the tech space it can be easy to start to overlook Cyber Security and think you've got it covered. If you just realised you fall into this category which is very Kiwi to think "She'll be right" that should be warning bell for you to get along and get informed about Cyber Resilience with the range of experts the EMA has drawn together to give you a good view and the ability for QnA across their diverse experience. Well worth the couple of hours along with the networking with like minded business owners - and yes I'll be there adding to my Kete as well. Speakers include: Denise Carter-Bennett - currently a Security Architect at Network for Learning (N4L) which has one of the single largest amount of intern traffic come through it, therefore they see and deal with almost everything that NZ faces means Denise with her extensive security background of 20 years, 'has seen it all'. Sam Shute leading Cyber Security Consultant with Bastion Security Group years experience "doing" as well as research, including advising the MoJ for the Harmful Digital Communications Act adds to the disucssion. Geordie B Stewart MSc CISSP from Network Service Providers (NSP) has been a head of IT Security since 1999 across various global organisations, experience that has evolved with the industry, hacks/threats and the array of processes and technology to protect. Robyn Campbell - Partner Cyber Security PwC New Zealand adds information protection to an establish security portfolio including Incident Response (The thing we hope never to be needed) and up to the Governnce level. Jennie Vickers - MC - With an extensive Legal background added to her Cyber Security foreground, Jennie will join the dots of technical into business conversation like few others ensuring you get the best out of the education. So if you'd like all that experience compacted into a digestible presentation, panel and discussion which you can be part of of, see you there, both members and non-members tickets are available: https://lnkd.in/gpGbzHci Having just signed my business AFQY - A Few Quiet Yarns up as a member, I encourage you to; from the networking to to the educational series across all areas of business and other services, talk to Simon Devoy. Thanks Sabrina Justen and Susanne Johnson for arranging this great event, much needed knowledge for the business community and the ability to discuss it gives great value. #CyberSecurity #CyberResilience
