What a delight to spend a fantastic afternoon enjoying the Bank of New Zealand Auckland Diwali Festival recently. It was an incredibly vibrant Indian cultural event filled with music, dance, and stalls celebrating Indian delicacies and crafts – and loads of people, approximately 100,000 over the two days! Known as the festival of lights Diwali symbolises victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and celebrates new beginnings. Happy Diwali! #Diwalilights #Diwalicelebration #Diwalisweets

This well-known quote by Nat Turner reminds us of the importance of timely and meaningful communication – it’s significant in good times, and even more critical in challenging times. Ensure you know your audience and then convey your message – with clarity and consideration. Useful C’s of communication: · Clarity: To have your audience remember and act on your message - keep it clear, concise and easy to understand, using simple language and no jargon. · Conciseness: Hold attention and convey your main message effectively by keeping it to-the-point, not too short or too long – just long enough to deliver your key message. · Compassion: Show you care about your audience. They will be more likely to trust and listen if you convey an empathetic understanding of the situation, their reactions, thoughts, and emotions. · Connection: Help to create a sense of trust and engagement with the message by using storytelling, humour, and personal experience to build a connection with your audience. · Conviction: The level of commitment you bring to your message conveys your belief in it, building a sense of trust and credibility and ensuring your audience is moved and inspired. · Courage: Conveying confidence in the face of uncertainty shows you are willing to say what needs to be said which is vitally important, especially when communicating sensitive information.

In our professional and personal lives, it’s always helpful to remind ourselves of the things we can control, things we can only influence, and to accept the things we cannot affect or change. This allows us to focus our energy and resources on the things that are most important to us and stop thinking about the other things we can do nothing about. The Circles of Influence provide a good demonstration for us: Circle of Concern: Things over which we have no control around the outcome. Examples: global, economic and other outside events; thoughts, reactions and actions of others. Circle of Influence: Things we can do something about. We don’t control the outcome, but we can influence it through what we are able to control. Examples: support, collaboration, persuasion. Circle of Control: Things we can directly control or impact through our thoughts, words and actions. Examples: goals, activities, actions, decisions, performance.

With the number of job applications continuing to rise, a compelling cover letter commands attention. You have but a few seconds to make an impactful impression and stand out, less in this job market – so it needs to count. To secure that interview, let your cover letter showcase who you are and how you can add real value to the role and business. A few tips: 1) Personalise It: include the hiring manager’s name and tailor content to the role and company. 2) Showcase Fit: Highlight how your skills and experience align with the job requirements and company culture. 3) Tell Your Story: summarise your career journey and express genuine enthusiasm for the position. 4) Demonstrate Research: Mention insights about the company to show you have done your research and are genuinely interested. 5) Stand Out: Use unique achievements to set yourself apart and make a memorable impression. Job and organisation fit are critical for both the candidate and the organisation. Crafting a tailored and convincing cover letter can make all the difference in landing your next opportunity. Also remember to keep your LinkedIn profile and CV up to date and check in with your talent partner to enhance your job search prospects. If you need help - get in touch with us.

Working with and supporting such incredible candidates and clients each and every day, is our why. Helping to make meaningful connections is what we are privileged to do, and receiving this kind of feedback is the icing on the cake. Thank you so much, we truly appreciate it! ”The team there really understands the recruiter’s needs and the candidate’s needs making the experience seamless and the match successful. The main ingredient that makes these relationships so successful is care. The team really care that candidates get the experience they deserve and are matched with the right employers. For both employers and candidates, this is a winning solution. I imagine I’ll be an Emergent Client for many years to come.” #findingyourfuture #emergent #emergenteffect

Another great quote. This one reminds us that if we choose to be courageous and confront discomfort or uncertainty – great things happen. #Growthmindset #Courage #Motivation

In celebration of Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW) our team reflected on this year’s theme of “Community is...what we create together” over breakfast. We each spoke to how we support community in our own lives, and as the conversation flowed we realised how much we are already collectively involved in, and things we’d like to commit to moving forward. Community looks different for everyone, and this was a great way to start the day, acknowledge the importance of community and connection, and take time to get to know each other even better! The MHAW website MHAW has some fantastic resources and ideas for everyone to participate – the smallest of gestures goes a long way!
