We’re proud to have been one of the Industry Sustaining sponsors for the NZSOLD (New Zealand Society on Large Dams) 2024 Symposium. This two-day Symposium in Wellington covered two important themes: ensuring safety and exploring engineering excellence. The event was attended by around 150 delegates from all parts of the dam industry across the country. NZSOLD was founded to advance the technology of dam engineering and supporting socially and environmental responsible development and management of water resources in New Zealand. We have a long relationship with NZSOLD. As one of the large corporate Members, we have representation on the Management Committee, and Andrew Balme, Genesis Engineering Manager—Civil & Dam Safety, is the current Vice-Chair.
About us
At Genesis, we’re working to put power in the hands of our customers. Whether it’s electricity, solar or gas we’ll find the energy solution that’s best for you and the life you lead. Our energy management options are affordable, simple to use and put you in control of your home or business’s energy use. We own and operate 1,890MW of electricity generation including a high efficiency 400MW combined cycle gas cycle turbine, hydro stations at Tongariro, Tekapo and Lake Waikaremoana, thermal generation at Huntly and the Hau Nui Wind Farm in the Wairarapa. We also have a 46 per cent equity interest in the Kupe oil and gas fields located in Taranaki. Genesis holds flexible supply contracts for 100 per cent of Kupe’s gas. We see real opportunities to help more Kiwi homes enjoy bottled gas and our guaranteed supply and LPG Retail Distribution business mean we’re set to grow our share of the LPG market. People working for us care about giving customers the best possible energy experience. That means we need people who are up for challenging the status quo and understand how technology can shape better customer experiences. If you want to help reimagine energy for New Zealanders, you’re going to like being on our team.

We’ve partnered with Ecobulb Limited to help provide Kiwi households with more efficient lighting alternatives 💡 Currently, around 50% of households in New Zealand still have inefficient incandescent or halogen light bulbs. Over the weekend, eligible Christchurch customers of both Genesis and Frank Energy were invited along to get up to 5 free light bulbs to replace their old inefficient bulbs at home. These Ecobulbs last for up to 50 years and use up to 90% less electricity than the inefficient incandescent light bulbs they will replace. Customers will see a material cost reduction and a reduction of peak load for Genesis. 📸 The Genesis team helping customers redeem their free Ecobulbs.

We’re celebrating the first anniversary of helping Van Lier Nurseries Limited replace a gas-fired boiler with an electric heat pump, resulting in significant savings in energy use and carbon emissions reduction 🌹 In the 12 months since the heat pump’s installation, the nursery has seen a 61% reduction in energy use, equating to 9,295 GJ, and an 88% reduction in carbon emissions, or 773 tonnes*. With the challenges NZ faces around gas supply and cost certainty, Van Lier can operate with peace of mind thanks to a long-term electricity supply agreement with Genesis. Genesis is proud to have helped Van Lier achieve these savings by providing engineering, procurement and project management for the new heat pump, supplied on lease-to-own arrangement. The project was co-funded by EECA (Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority) and co-financed with New Zealand Green Investment Finance . Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/gaSJjxiB *Carbon savings determined using EECA’s GIDI Energy Carbon Emissions Reduction Report calculator.

As we enter the semifinals of the Office Comedy Clash, we’re disappointed our team isn’t advancing, but they’ll always be stars to us 🤩 Congratulations to the semifinalists, and a special shoutout to our improv team for reaching this stage in the competition for the title of "Funniest Office in New Zealand". We’re proud to sponsor this year’s Office Comedy Clash and support The Covert Theatre’s mission to foster human connection through play. Thank you for having us!🧡
The last heat of the Office Comedy Clash at the Covert Theatre was a cracker! We had both Bank of New Zealand and Kiwibank top score and make it into the semifinals with Genesis right behind them. So we now head into semifinal territory! We say goodbye to Fisher & Paykel Technologies, Genesis, Radius Care and Serko Ltd. who performed so well but didn’t make the top four. Next week sees Kiwibank go head to head with MediaWorks NZ for the first spot in the grand final. Make sure you get your ticket at Eventfinda, the next 3 weeks of finals are going to be epic! A huge shout out to Genesis for supporting the Office Comedy Clash and encouraging fun in the workplace and gaining the vital skills improv imparts for all involved. We are pleased to announce today that Genesis has taken a 65% shareholding in ChargeNet - EV Charging Solutions, New Zealand's largest nationwide electric vehicle (EV) public charging network 🚗 This strategic move positions Genesis as a key investor in the growth of the country’s EV market and the energy transition. Established in 2015, ChargeNet operates more than 400 public fast-charging points across the country, with over 90% of New Zealand’s EV owners registered as customers. With a strong development pipeline, ChargeNet is poised to drive further growth as New Zealand's shift toward sustainable transport gains momentum. Genesis’ investment will enable ChargeNet to accelerate that growth with charge points expected to more than double by 2030. Our Chief Retail Officer, Stephen England-Hall, said decarbonising transport is crucial for New Zealand's future, and public charging infrastructure is a key element of that transition. This partnership combines ChargeNet’s market leadership with Genesis’ energy expertise and customer reach, enabling us to play a leading role in shaping the future of transport in New Zealand. “With nearly 500,000 customers, Genesis can accelerate ChargeNet’s market leadership by utilising our energy management expertise, guiding larger customers through fleet transitions and ensuring we deliver the best charging network for the country’s EV drivers," Stephen said.
