The recent Small Island Developing State (SIDS) Conference, hosted by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), resulted in a comprehensive "Resilience Roadmap" aimed at strengthening climate resilience in vulnerable island nations. The roadmap outlines strategies to address climate-related challenges such as rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and environmental degradation. Key agreements include enhanced early warning systems, increased investment in climate adaptation, and greater international cooperation to support these small island states in their fight against climate change. #memberhighlight We're happy to welcome the Pacific Tourism Organisation to GLISPA! Since its inception in 1983, the Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) has been pivotal in representing tourism across its 21 government members and 200 private sector members in the Pacific region. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, SPTO Member Countries identified the urgent need to diversify tourism and revenue streams. This led to the Pacific Ecotourism Recovery Initiative, in collaboration with the Pacific Community and UNESCO, focusing on developing Geoparks to enhance sustainable tourism. Feasibility assessments have been conducted across selected sites like Samoa, Vanuatu, Tuvalu, and Fiji. Furthermore, aligning with the Pacific Sustainable Tourism Policy Framework 2030, the SPTO, in partnership with the Tuvalu Department of Tourism and supported by UNDP, recently launched the Tuvalu Sustainable Tourism Policy 2022 – 2032, aiming to foster sustainable tourism practices in the region.
