Prof. Maggie-Lee Huckabee discusses her approach toward #dysphagia rehabilitation, which involves helping the patient to train and re-wire the brain to learn to swallow again, rather than taking an invasive and expensive approach 🧠 ✅ Prof. Maggie-Lee Huckabee is the Founding Director and Chief Scientific Officer of Swallowing Technologies Ltd, a #MedTech company who have developed their own application and device for #dysphagia rehabilitation called BiSSkapp (Biofeedback in Strength and Skill Training). BiSSkapp works by connecting to a wireless surface electromyography (#sEMG) device that sits under the chin of the patient to detect and display muscle activity on a tablet 📲 Watch the full episode of Maggie-Lee Huckabee joined by CEO Emma Hayes: - YouTube: https://lnkd.in/gw6RAa8i - Spotify: https://lnkd.in/g8JdFZPd - Apple Podcasts: https://lnkd.in/g5QymDEc __________________________________ This episode of Good Clinical Podcast is produced in partnership with #TeTitokiMataora, the MedTech Research Translator. #nzmedtech #medtech #healthtech #medtechinnovation #healthtechinnovation #researchtranslation #medtechinnovationhub #TeTitokiMataora

The incorporation of deep learning algorithms for detailed breast cancer assessment, a digital pathology tool that is likely to become routine practice by 2030 🔬 🏥 In this weeks episode in our partnership with #TeTitokiMataora, meet Dr Gavin Harris, anatomical pathologist from Canterbury Health Laboratories. Gavin and I discuss his current development of a diagnostic digital #pathology assessment tool using #machinelearning algorithms to assess #breastcancer, by evaluating genomic features, aggressiveness and risk of recurrence. Having such a novel tool available means increased access, lower cost, and reduced time required for diagnostics and assessment ✅ We chat about several topics such as training the #algorithm on clinical data, the process of validation, and the regulatory steps required for #commercialisation. Gavin emphasises the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration, networks, and funding support from entities like #TeTitokiMataora, and shares his experience navigating the complexities of both the #healthcare and #commercial sectors 🤝 You can catch the full episode here: - YouTube: https://lnkd.in/gnfGJehp __________________________________ This episode of Good Clinical Podcast is produced in partnership with #TeTitokiMataora, the MedTech Research Translator. Meet Swallowing Technologies Ltd's BiSSkapp, an innovative, non-invasive solution for providing remote #dysphagia rehabilitation 📲 In the latest episode in our partnership with #TeTitokiMataora, meet Prof Maggie-Lee Huckabee, the Founding Director & Chief Scientific Officer, and Emma Hayes, the Chief Executive Officer at Swallowing Technologies Ltd. Swallowing Technologies Ltd (Swaltech for short) is a #MedTech company that have developed their own application and device for #dysphagia rehabilitation called BiSSkapp (Biofeedback in Strength and Skill Training), which works by connecting to a wireless surface electromyography (#sEMG) device that sits under the chin of the patient to detect and display muscle activity on a tablet. This allows #dysphagia rehabilitation to be achieved in the patient's comfort of their own home with remote clinical supervision 🏡 In this episode, we discuss several topics such as: 1. Dysphagia, or difficulty swallowing, is an unseen but not uncommon disorder that often affects individuals who have had a #stroke, have a neurodegenerative condition such as #Parkinson's or #dementia, or children with #cerebralpalsy. 2. Swaltechs's BiSSkapp solution works by placing #electrodes under the chin, which connects to a tablet to provide muscle feedback, allowing patients to visualise their muscle activity at home with clinician-prescribed settings. 3. The adaptive #biofeedback can adjust difficulty to patient progress, and personalised voice prompts from clinicians can be incorporated to help with progress and motivation. 4. Swaltech is beginning their release to the #NZ market, with #Australia and the #US next on the list - the aim being to gather as much initial data and feedback as possible on the current device. 5. Swaltech's goals as a company are to provide #international state-of-the-art dysphagia management, with future plans for further product iterations and paediatric expansion.
