Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎗️ In New Zealand, nine women are diagnosed with breast cancer every day. It's likely someone you know has been affected, and our hearts go out to you 💗 Many women don’t regularly self-check, but it’s essential to detect breast cancer early. Early detection can make all the difference, as it means treatment will be most effective. The Breast Cancer Foundation recommends checking your breasts once a month for any lumps or changes in appearance, including up to the collarbone and under the armpits. They’ll perform an initial check and refer you for screening scans. Join us this week in celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) Te Reo Māori is one of the official languages of Aotearoa, and it’s our privilege to honour that, not just this week, but across the year. The theme for Te Wiki 2024 is ‘Ake ake ake – A Forever Language’, representing the resilience, adaptability, and endurance of te reo Māori. If you’re exploring te reo for the first time, don’t be afraid of giving it a go. Every action helps make te reo Māori a living language across the motu, safeguarding it into the future. Next time you greet a friend, say ‘Kia ora’, or wish them good morning by saying ‘Ata mārie’ or ‘Mōrena’. Try saying ‘Ngā mihi nui’ in place of thank you. You could even volunteer to lead your next meeting with a ‘Karakia’ or use ‘Ko toku ingoa’ (my name is) to introduce yourself to someone new.
