Doris Henry English Speaking Union Awardees 2024 from Wintec Rotary Club of Hamilton East annually presents the Doris Henry English Speaking Union award to students on the basis of academic merit to a full-time or part-time undergraduate student who has completed at least three Level II courses in English. Every year the awards are given to the students from the University of Waikato and students from Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec). This year, the club presented three awards. The awardees were Mikayla Ann Baker, Lydia Lotus Costa-Harris and Oliver Newport. The awards to students were presented at a Special Awards Ceremony on Monday 13 May 2024 organised by Wintec. Congratulations to Mikayla, Lydia and Oliver. Ross Needham and Judith Hancock from the Rotary Club of Hamilton East attended the award ceremony. #hamiltoneastrotary #rotaryinternational

About us
The Rotary Club of Hamilton East was chartered in 1960. We are involved in range of activities including supporting local schools via grants and summer science school programmes, refugee families, youth exchanges, and sponsoring young people for courses. The following are some examples: - Local schools, via activities such as dictionaries in schools, grants via the JR McKenzie Trust, and the summer science school programmes - Youth exchanges, involving both outgoing and incoming secondary school students - Ambassadorial and Peace Scholars studying at Waikato University - We organise a farm trip for foreign students studying at Waikato University each year - Provide funds to a range of charities, and help local charities collect funds - Sponsors young people to courses such as RYPEN, RYLA, and Outward Bound - Supports the Patricia Avenue School for special needs students

Easter Celebration at Hamilton Boys' High School. This week, some of our amazing members had the privilege of celebrating Easter with refugee boys at Hamilton Boys' High School! It was a heartwarming occasion filled with joy, laughter, and a sense of togetherness. Our members brought smiles to the faces of these incredible young individuals, creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime. Rotary Club of Hamilton East Wednesday, 21 February 2024 It is pleasure listening to Jane Searle (Chief Executive of Child Matters). Thank you Jane for your insightful talk on the child abuse. Jane started her career as a barrister and solicitor, before joining the New Zealand Police. After qualifying as a detective she worked on the child abuse team. Jane has also worked as a counter-fraud specialist in the United Kingdom, where she led a team responsible for fraud detection and investigation in the National Health Service. After returning to New Zealand, Jane worked as a trainer and investigator for local government, financial institutions, insurance companies and the health sector, before joining Child Matters in 2015. #hamiltoneastrotary #rotaryinternational
