Our Managing Director of AU and senior veterinarian Alex-Kate is currently attending the ACMF Avian Influenza Summit this week. This summit in collaboration with government, industry and experts is fundamental in preparing us for future Avian Influenza outbreaks - particularly in reference to H5N1 that is causing concern globally. Day 1: take home message. We all need to play a part in preparedness planning. We need to have the difficult discussions at farm level relating to control, destruction, disposal and continuity of business now, to ensure we are stand ready for action when needed.

It’s National Biosecurity Week - and today hundreds of representatives from right across the poultry value chain have gathered on the Gold Coast for the ACMF National Avian Influenza Summit. This highly collaborative summit has brought together state and federal CVOs, industry and global experts to discuss preparing a rapid and effective response to an H5N1 avian influenza outbreak. We look forward to two productive days and thank participants for their engagement and contribution. Our Director and Senior Veterinarian Alex-Kate Langfield is currently representing the Australian Egg Industry in the Liaison-Livestock Industry Role (LLI) in the current NSW and ACT Avian Influenza Response. Industry representatives play a critical role during an EAD response by providing industry perspective, communications support as well as operational advice and guidance on the specifics of response to ensure we restore our 'Free of Avian Influenza' status as quickly and efficiently as possible.

    A Good Egg

This morning, I had the privilege of presenting to Sharpes Farm Feeds, a forward thinking and innovative player in the feed manufacturing sector. It was good to firstly speak with mill staff and then separately with management and ownership. We explored the vital part that support industries have in elevating farm biosecurity and securing their mill and business. In light of the impending threat of avian influenza, it’s imperative that all stakeholders engage and stay informed to mitigate disease spread. By pooling our efforts and sharing knowledge, we can effectively shield our farms and businesses from this impending challenge as best we can.

The recent avian influenza outbreaks in Australia have highlighted the importance of comprehensive biosecurity measures to protect our flocks. While some risks may be outside our control, it's crucial to take proactive steps to mitigate the dangers we can manage. A robust biosecurity plan is an essential tool for safeguarding our birds and preserving the future of our farms. By implementing strong protocols we can create a barrier against disease and ensure a healthy environment for our poultry. At Hatch House, we understand the importance of a tailored approach to biosecurity. If the recent events have led you to reevaluate your farm's preparedness, or if you find yourself in need of a plan, we're here to assist you. Our team can help develop a strategy specific to your farm or review your existing plan to ensure it's up-to-date with current industry standards and practices. Let's work together to protect our flocks and maintain a thriving, resilient poultry industry. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or would like to discuss your biosecurity needs.
