About us
The Heart Foundation is New Zealand’s heart charity, leading the fight against heart disease - our country’s single biggest killer. Our purpose is to stop all people in New Zealand dying prematurely from heart disease and enable people with heart disease to live full lives. As the country’s leading independent funder of heart research, we have invested more than $85 million into research and specialist training for cardiologists since we started in 1968. We also perform a range of activities that help support people, and their whānau, living with heart disease and provide educational programmes and campaigns that promote heart-healthy living.

After losing her dad to a sudden and devastating heart attack, Dorothy (pictured) made the generous decision to leave the Heart Foundation a gift in her Will. “I wanted to establish a legacy to make sure other families could stay together for longer. Whilst I hope to stick around for a long time yet, as I am busy with my community work and volunteering, I wanted to make sure the Heart Foundation could expect these much-needed funds. Whether you have a little or a lot to contribute, it all helps. I’m confident the Heart Foundation will put my gifts to good use.” Until Sunday 31 March, Safewill is offering you the chance to write your Will for FREE as part of Free Wills Fortnight. A heartfelt thanks to our amazing partners, AIA NZ, who supported our Big Heart Appeal with their staff, and AIA Vitality members. During the week, the AIA team had lunchtime walks and runs, led by AIA Vitality ambassador Ian Jones, before volunteering their time on Friday during our Big Heart Appeal street collection. Thank you to AIA NZ for your ongoing partnership, and for helping to raise life-saving funds for heart research ❤️ Your generosity and support are truly making a difference in the fight against heart disease.

Cardiologist and Heart Foundation Chair of Heart Health, Professor Robert Doughty, has completed an extraordinary physical challenge—cycling the entire length of New Zealand’s South Island—to raise funds for heart research and honour the memory of his friend and colleague, Associate Professor Malcolm Legget. We can’t thank Rob enough for his incredible commitment to raising funds for heart research ❤️ https://bit.ly/4hf1n8Q

A huge thanks to our partners Green Cross Health who supported our Big Heart Appeal for another year. Throughout the month of February, customers shopping with Unichem and Life Pharmacy have been adding $1 to their instore purchases, with funds raised supporting our life-saving work. Over the last 10 years an amazing $115,000 has been raised. The Heart Foundation is incredibly fortunate to work with a range of organisations who share our mission to stop all people in New Zealand from dying prematurely from heart disease and enabling people with heart disease to live full lives.❤️

Prof Robert Doughty has just completed day seven of his Ride For Heart with a picturesque finish in Wanaka. It’s been a huge week since he set off from Nelson, covering 866km and a huge 6680m of ascent. Tomorrow he’s off on the Motatapu mountain bike race from Glendhu Bay to Arrowtown and is no doubt looking forward to some company. A huge thanks to Rob for his fundraising efforts for the Heart Foundation. To find out more and see pictures of his journey, click the link below. https://lnkd.in/eNAJPfUW

A huge thank you to the University of Otago, Christchurch, for supporting our Big Heart Appeal with a fundraising breakfast. The 30 attendees were treated to a talk by Heart Foundation funded researchers, Dr Nicola Scott and Professor Chris Charles about current projects underway at the Christchurch Heart Institute. A best dressed competition and Heart Foundation resources complemented the heart-healthy breakfast. Thank you to the Christchurch Heart Institute and the University of Otago for celebrating and supporting the heart health cause ❤️
