After two decades of working alongside and the development of top-tier advertising photographers, agent and producer Michele Richards-Berry was asked by Production Paradise to contribute with her learnings and tips for photographers seeking representation. In an industry where finding the right agent can make or break a career, it’s a pivotal decision, and we are excited to share some insights that can help guide photographers on their journey. For anyone considering representation, finding the right agent can often feel like an overwhelming task. But with a bit of guidance, you can make a well-informed decision that aligns with both your professional goals and creative aspirations. 1. Know Your Unique Strengths Before you even start looking for an agent, it's crucial to have a clear understanding of what makes you stand out as a photographer. Agents are looking for photographers with a distinct style or expertise that will resonate with their clients. Define your niche and be prepared to showcase a strong portfolio that highlights your best work. 2. Do Your Research Not all agents are created equal. Some focus on commercial advertising, others might specialise in editorial, fashion, or lifestyle work. It's essential to find an agent whose roster aligns with your work and can help elevate your career. Take the time to research potential agencies—look at the photographers they represent, and the level of work they produce. 3. Understand the Role of an Agent An agent's primary job is to get you jobs. But they also offer a range of other services: negotiation, marketing, and business management. It's vital to find someone who is not only passionate about your work but also has the experience and network to help you land the types of jobs you're aiming for. A great agent is a strategic partner who will help guide the business side of your career while allowing you to focus on the creative. 4. The Importance of Chemistry While it's easy to focus on the business side of things, the relationship with your agent is built on mutual trust and understanding. You should feel comfortable discussing your goals, expectations, and any concerns that arise. A successful agent-photographer partnership is built on a foundation of communication, trust and a shared vision for your career. 5. Take Your Time Don’t rush into signing with the first agent who expresses interest. It's okay to take your time, ask questions, and make sure that the agent you choose is genuinely the right fit. A well-thought-out decision will lead to a much more fruitful partnership down the line. If you're looking for an agent, this is a great read, and hopefully, it will help you find the representation that aligns with your career and creative goals. https://lnkd.in/gYjt9NHc

In a single frame, Sacha Stejko captures the unguarded reality behind the performance, earning her Gold in the Production Paradise Spotlight Awards 2024 ‘Portraiture & Celebrity’ category for 'Drag ft. Elektra Shock.' "This image embodies the aftermath of a show, where the facade drops, revealing the intricate layers of identity beneath. The smudged makeup, the ripped wig cap, and the lingering glimmer of earrings reflect the duality of the performer: both the dazzling persona and the authentic individual beyond the stage lights.” - Sacha says of the shot. Having worked with the brilliant Elektra Shock—known for her performances on RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under and her career as a dancer, choreographer, and creative director—Sacha brings both artistry and emotional depth to this striking portrait. Here’s to more groundbreaking work ahead! #sachastejko #idcworldwideltd #idcphotography #spotlightawards #NZphotography #photography

Showing the spirit of Kiwi ingenuity, Camilla Rutherford’s image, 'The Workshop of No.8 Wire Mentality,' has taken home a Production Paradise 2024 Spotlight Award in the 'Corporate and Industrial’ category! Camilla shares: "The workshop on our farm is five generations old. In New Zealand, farmers pride themselves on the ability to fix, modify, or create anything with a piece of No.8 wire — it's called the 'No.8 wire mentality.' This space is full of that resourcefulness. It never needs to be cleared out, because there's always something useful here. This photo is part of my 'Workshop' series, which explores the relationship between people and their creative spaces. I’m fascinated by how these environments reflect their owners’ personalities." We’re proud to represent Camilla at IDC Worldwide Ltd and celebrate her ongoing success! #camillarutherford #idcworldwideltd #idcphotography #spotlightawards #NZphotography #photography

Congratulations to our photographer Camilla Rutherford for winning a prestigious Gold IPA Award! Standing alongside the globe’s best photographers, Camilla has come first place in the 'Professional Editorial - Press, Contemporary issues’ category with her powerful series Once Were Farmers. The series captures the communities in Vietnam who after generations of farming have turned to processing the world’s plastic waste. This compelling work is a reminder of our daily environmental impact and the far-reaching effects it has on people and places across the planet. We are immensely proud to represent Camilla and support such meaningful storytelling. #CamillaRutherford #IPAAwards #NZPhotography #Photography #IDCworldwide #ProudAgency #IDCPhotography #InternationalPhotographyAwards
