The fine for misusing mobility parks set aside for disabled people has this week jumped from $150 to $750. Speaking to RNZ's Morning Report today, IHC's Director of Advocacy Tania Thomas says increasing the fine is only part of the solution. "It would be really great if you had a culture where people wanted to do the right thing because they understood the challenges that disabled people face. It needs to be a cultural shift where people are educated and do understand so that those accessible parking spaces are reserved for those who truly need them." Volunteer Olivia (left) and Mandy were matched through the IHC Volunteer Friendship Programme in 2019, and over the years, they have become close friends. They enjoy going to local cafés for breakfast and meet up every week to catch up on what they’ve been doing. This picture shows them at one of their favourite cafés. They also meet every Christmas Day to wish each other a Merry Christmas, and Olivia says that Mandy will always be a part of her life. Congratulations to Xervier Doney! He has won the IHC Capture the moment People’s Choice Award and $1500 for his amazing image, 'Woodcut Horse'. “This is a photo of a 'Willow' at Riding for the Disabled in Upper Hutt, Wellington. The photo was used as a template to create a woodcut print. The print was then photographed, and the original photo was superimposed over the woodcut.” We’d like to congratulate Xervier and thank all the entrants for their stunning images. The theme of this year’s competition was "Nature: the Living World." #CaptureTheMoment2024 #FotoFest2024 📸
