The various panels were insightful, and a much needed conversation on how Aotearoa New Zealand can look forward to engaging with Asia more in the next 30 years. Principal Research Fellow & Founder Alexander C. Tan also chaired a panel on the emerging new world order in Asia. Looking forward to the continued collaboration with the Foundation and always grateful for their support thus far.

Last Friday, the Institute was honoured to have Professor Robert Ross from Boston College deliver a talk on “China, the Changing Balance of Power in East Asia, and Prospects for Regional Security”. Professor Ross talked about the challenges that regional states face in managing their relationships with the two major powers as the geostrategic hierarchy evolves and how smaller states need to be be sure of what their national interests are and what capabilities the respective powers have in pursuing their alignments. The talk was jointly hosted by the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Canterbury and by NZIIA Christchurch.
