Innovating Beyond Standards with Lanaco’s EcoStatic® Air Filter Media In HVAC, standards like ASHRAE 52.2 and ISO 16890 set performance benchmarks and provide valuable frameworks. While essential, true innovation means going beyond meeting these metrics—it means reshaping the future. Standards as a Foundation, Not a Limit: At Lanaco, standards are just a starting point. Our EcoStatic® Filter Media, powered by wool and proprietary technology, delivers high efficiency with ultra-low resistance. Despite known technical challenges like discharged efficiency loss, real-world use shows our filters maintain exceptional performance. Innovation frequently outpaces standards, as seen with indoor air cleaners operating outside traditional HEPA rules. While regulations can push industries, true progress often comes from pioneering new paths. At Lanaco, we use standards as a springboard, aiming higher to set new benchmarks. Meet Us at FILTECH Exhibition 2024: Come see how we’re pushing air filtration forward at FILTECH 2024 in Cologne, Germany. Visit us at Hall 8 C31 to learn more and discuss potential collaborations for a sustainable future. Join the Conversation: How do you see the future of air filtration evolving? Part 2: EcoStatic® - Sustainably Lowering Carbon Emissions In our last post, we explored biomaterials and the role of wool in Lanaco’s sustainability strategy. Today, we’ll examine the carbon impact of our EcoStatic® air filters and the innovative practices of Ovis Global™. • Carbon Footprint: We’re on the path to achieving a negative carbon footprint for EcoStatic® media. By working closely with New Zealand farmers and supporting innovation in sheep farming, we are dedicated to minimizing our environmental impact. • Energy Savings: EcoStatic®'s ultra-low pressure drop significantly reduces energy consumption. For instance, 1 million m² of EcoStatic® media can save 10 GWh of energy—enough to power approximately 1,400 average households (assume 7,000kWh per household per annum) for a year! Ovis Global, the owner and developer of the Astino® breed & Astino® wool, is leading a 10-year breeding program to produce high-quality, low-carbon wool. This innovation supports Lanaco’s goal of creating sustainable products. By reducing methane emissions and enhancing productivity, Ovis Global aligns seamlessly with our vision for sustainable air filtration. Want to learn more or meet us at FILTECH Exhibition 2024? This Wool Month, we celebrate the versatile qualities of wool and its essential role in our EcoStatic® air filter media. Beyond sustainability, wool outperforms many synthetic fibers, making it an ideal material for high-performance filtration. Why Wool? - Electrostatic Properties: Lanaco has utilized and enhanced the properties of wool to create EcoStatic®, an electrostatic filter. - Ultra-Low Pressure Drop: Due to the fiber structure of wool, air can easily pass through EcoStatic® filter media. - Hydrophobic Surface: Wool is naturally tolerant to moisture. This allows our EcoStatic® range to prevent water building up and clogging the filter media. - Fire Resistance: Wool is naturally fire retardant. Some of our EcoStatic® range have strong spark arrestance and fire resistance credentials. - High Dust Holding Capacity: The porous structure of non-woven wool allows dust to be captured and accumulate whilst allowing air to continue to flow through. Discover how our EcoStatic® wool-based media can help you achieve both performance and sustainability in air filtration. Let’s make natural possible together! Creating Your Biomaterial Options, EcoStatic® Air Filter Media: Part 2 In Part 1, we explored the basics of biomaterials, biobased, and biodegradable concepts. Now, let’s dig deeper into some key definitions and pathways for creating environmentally friendly solutions: Key Definitions: - Biodegradable: The ability for a material to safely break down into components that can be absorbed by the environment. - Biosourced: Refers to materials derived from recently planted, farmed, or recycled organic sources. Biodegradable Pathways: - Biodegradable: Must meet criteria such as microbial consumption, disintegration, lack of ecotoxicity, and absence of heavy metals. Some standards even include biocompatibility testing with seedlings and worms. - Recyclable: Materials that can be processed and reused after their initial lifecycle, minimizing waste. - Compostable: Materials that break down naturally in home or industrial composting conditions, contributing to a circular economy. Biosourced Options: - Biobased: Products derived from recently farmed organic materials, as opposed to fossil-based resources. - Recycled: Materials that have already been used and repurposed, reducing the need for virgin resources. At Lanaco, sustainability drives our innovation. Our EcoStatic® air filter media offers environmentally friendly solutions that don’t compromise on performance. Creating Your Biomaterial Options, EcoStatic® Air Filter Media: Part 1 We've received many questions from our partners about terms like “biobased,” “biodegradable,” and “biomaterials.” But what do they really mean for your sustainability strategy? 🤔 Here’s a brief summary: Biomaterials are biobased and/or biodegradable, divided into three groups:      1. Natural materials (e.g., wool, silk)      2. Biobased polymers (e.g., biobased PE, PET, PA)      3. Biobased and/or biodegradable polymers with new structures (e.g., PLA, PHA, PBS, PBAT) A biobased material is one that is defined by EN 16575:2014 as a material made completely or partially from renewable resources. Although EN doesn’t specify a minimum rate, USDA specifies at least 25% biobased content. A biodegradable material is one that can be decomposed and absorbed by micro-organisms (bacteria, fungus, algae, etc.). The result of the process is the formation of water, CO2 and/or methane and other harmless or beneficial compounds and byproducts. At Lanaco, sustainability drives our innovation. Our EcoStatic® air filter media is designed to meet your needs for environmentally friendly solutions without compromising filter performance. Contact us to start making natural possible in air filtration together! Stay tuned for Part 2 next week. Lanaco.co.nz #EcoStatic #Wool #CleanAir #AirFiltration #Biobased #Natural #Renewable
