Nicola Daly is a children’s book buff. A sociolinguist and senior lecturer at University of Waikato, she has committed her academic career to children’s literature and language learning. Her latest research looks at how Indigenous voices in Aotearoa New Zealand are, and can be, authentically represented in picture books. You can now borrow more than books by getting involved with the new Kohinga Kākano | Seed Library at Ngā Puna Waiora Newtown Library – a free service where people are invited to take, grow, swap and return seeds from their own home crops. Seed libraries are a growing feature in libraries as they promote kai sovereignty, climate action and resilience. Exciting news! LIANZA would like to announce that our new Executive Director will be Laura Marshall. Many of you will know Laura as she was the Director of Te Aka Mauri Rotorua Libraries. Laura has recent experience as the GM Commercial Services with Hospice West Auckland and past experience as the Commercial Manager at Rotorua Museum. She was the owner of Evergreen Books. Laura will commence as the LIANZA Executive Director on November 25. We are excited to welcome Laura into her new role. Moving to a shiny new multimillion-dollar building is paying off for the Hornby Library who moved into the new Matatiki Centre in suburban Christchurch in April. Hornby Library has experienced a 107% increase in new members with 748 new members enrolled, up from 387 during the same period last year. The new multi-purpose centre includes a library and collections, computers and technology, a cafe, swimming pool, bookable spaces, council service centre and more. https://ow.ly/upmg50TQnY1
