Longworth Education
Professional Training and Coaching
A consultancy focused on supporting schools who want to implement learning through play into their environment.
About us
Longworth Education is a small, passionate consultancy focused on supporting schools who want to implement learning through play into the primary education environment. Learning through play is founded on sound research and the following principles: Learning through play is a developmental approach to a child’s learning Learning through play acknowledges that the child is in control of their own learning The teacher supports, scaffolds and gifts new knowledge using intentional teaching methods Learning occurs through a process of curiosity and inquiry, and as such cannot be segregated into isolated subject areas We believe that learning unfolds naturally as children interact with the world around them. The learner needs every opportunity to experience the outside environment The learner should be given opportunities to develop an empathy, a sense of belonging and a connection with their outside environment

Meet Gina Potter, an educator with a passion for teaching and learning through play, across mainstream, alternative and nature-based settings. Gina's expertise extends to research, having been involved in Ministry-funded TLIF research focusing on student agency and nature-based learning. Her academic journey includes a Master's study examining the intersection of alternative education and educational futures, and she's currently pursuing a PhD investigating student agency and teachers' day-to-day practices. In the future, Gina hopes to investigate intergenerational nature based learning where preschoolers, children and adults can come together to draw on the benefits of learning in the outdoors. Outside of education, Gina finds dance and electronica music an outlet for play, creativity, self expression and joy.
