Decimating palm plantations across the Pacific, the Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (CRB) is an invasive horned beetle that is found across the Pacific region. For over 50 years the beetle was suppressed in the Pacific only for a different type, first detected in Guam, to invade again – particularly in Melanesia. To help manage the spread of this tiny enemy, the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has been funding a five-year programme in Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, which is finishing later this year.
