About us

We are a non-profit association of women who work either in the construction industry or for business organisations who provide services to the construction industry. The number of women in the construction industry has grown exponentially in recent years and women are hard at work in just about every construction job. This growth has prompted the establishment and success of NAWIC. NAWIC was founded in Texas in 1952 by a group of 16 women. Since then it has grown to an international organisation. Today it is going strong in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. NAWIC New Zealand has been active in Wellington since 1996, and has recently established Chapters in Auckland and Canterbury. Our members include quantity surveyors, project managers, suppliers, planners, designers, architects, engineers, tradespeople and lawyers. NAWIC encourages women to pursue, establish and sustain successful careers in the construction industry. Our vision is to be the leading voice for women in the New Zealand industry. We hold regular events to inform and up-skill women in construction and to promote networking and information sharing for the betterment of the construction industry as a whole.

  • 📌Sharing this guide again, put together by the team at Waihanga Ara Rau for Menopause Awareness Day 2024! 🌟Menopause is an important gender and age equality issue in our society. It is also a significant factor in health and well-being in the workplace. It is important for employers to be aware of how menopause can affect employees at work/in connection to work, whether this be someone experiencing menopause or supporting a colleague through menopause. 👉Women will go through menopause at some point in some way, and some may find that menopause impacts them at work. With the increasing focus on workplaces being supportive and inclusive, now is the time to consider menopause in the work context. 👉This guide is designed to help you understand and support perimenopausal and menopausal colleagues in your workplace. https://lnkd.in/gm4e2eCS This is now also available on our website resources page https://lnkd.in/gn6TEyUS

  • What a fantastic event - Celebrating women pioneering the future in construction. WOW! On the 131st anniversary of Suffrage day, 2024, NAWIC chapters joined forces with BCITO to host a FREE simultaneous event, across all chapter regions in Aotearoa, New Zealand - We Belong - Women Pioneering The Future in Construction. The event was themed to showcase, just like our suffrage sisters 131 years ago, many women in construction have been pioneers in the industry, advocating for change and carving a path for others to follow, by encouraging and mentoring women starting out as a student or apprentice, supporting those considering a career in the sector, and cheering on the ones who are leading the way. Elevating NZ construction industry by raising contract awareness, promoting best practices with high ethical standards, and through innovative education. | Registered QS| Educator | Advisor | Adjudicator | AAMINZ - MAANZ

I was honored to be one of the panellists at the recent event " We Belong - Women Pioneering the Future in Construction", held at Fulton Hogan's new Tauranga office. This amazing event was organised by National Association of Women in Construction NZ (NAWIC) and supported by BCITO. It was a true privilege to speak alongside incredible women, each paving the way for the future of our industry. Being part of the conversation about women breaking barriers in construction is something I hold close to my heart. As the only Asian female adjudicator ( in practicing) in New Zealand and someone deeply involved in large-scale infrastructure projects, I'm constantly reminded of the importance of representation, and hopefully, my career journey can inspire more women considering joining this evolving industry. The future is bright for women in construction. I look forward to seeing more women join this rewarding field, and I am committed to continuing my support for them along the way. Thank you again NAWIC for hosting such an inspirational event. #NAWIC #WomenInConstruction #Infrastructure #WeBelong #ConstructionLeadership #PioneeringChange
