AMPI has put forward a position paper addressing concerns regarding engine power limiters installed on ships to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, particularly in pilotage waters. This paper emphasises the importance of immediate access to full engine power for safe navigation and compliance with international regulations. Recommendations include updating pilot cards with limiter status, training crew on limiter overrides, and enhancing pre-arrival information forms for port authorities. Failure to address these issues may result in compromised maneuverability and potential safety hazards. This issue was also addressed in our most recent edition of Safe Passage with an insightful article by Nic Gardner and Matthew Williams. What are your thoughts? #enginepowerlimiters #ampi #marinepilot #positionpaper #marinesafety #safepassage

Australasian Marine Pilots Institute (AMPI) magazine Safe Passage Summer 23/24 Edition. My first edition of Safe Passage as co-editor with Port Hedland Pilot Tom Hilton. Many thanks to the previous editor Ricky Rouse for all his hard work over the last few years. Big shoes for us to fill. Some great summaries of the AMPI conference in Perth last year and an important article on the 'Safety & Sustainability in Pilotage areas' regarding the new IMO emission regulations. Please enjoy and share with the maritime community. Paper copies in the post Many thanks to our supporters - Port Ash Australia, Svitzer Australia, Hart Marine, #IMPA, New Zealand Maritime Pilots' Association, Navicom Dynamics, AMC Search, AD Navigation AS, Damen, Dongara Marine, Smartship Australia, Trelleborg Marine & Infrastructure, UKMPA
