The Sydney leg of Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s visit to Australia concluded with a Trade and Economic event, hosted by Andrew McCowan and Glen Murphy. Australia is a vital economic partner of New Zealand, with two-way trade at NZ$31 billion. In a room filled with trade and investment partners from Australia and New Zealand, it was a great opportunity to connect with Australia’s business community and illustrate the strong commitment of New Zealand to learn from, and work with, Australia. Special thanks to Councilor Yvonne Weldon AM for providing the Welcome to Country and to all our special guests that joined us. This event showcased New Zealand’s world class food and beverage, thank you to the talented Amber Doig for the beautifully created kai. The event featured Strange Nature Distilling, Babich Wines Ltd, Garage Project, Antipodes Water, Ora King, Proper Crisps NZ & Australia, Cloudy Bay Clams, Pacific Harvest Seaweeds, Lumina Lamb, Whittaker's , Kai Ora Honey Ltd, and Coffee Supreme . Last week, our Australia team, led by Glen Murphy and Cath Cooksley-Little, welcomed Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to Sydney as part of his state visit to Australia. With a focus on learning from infrastructure in New South Wales, the first stop was a visit to Andrew Mailer, David Carter, and the Beca team in their Sydney office. Discussions centred around how a Trans-Tasman business like Beca can share knowledge, skills and resources to solve collective problems in the energy, water and defence sectors.

Last week, we had the privilege of hosting a New Zealand EdTech Connect delegation consisting of Banqer, Education Perfect, Essential Assessment, Essential Resources, Kami, Hero, StepsWeb and Using Technology Better. We kicked things off in Melbourne with a powerful smoking ceremony by Wurundjeri Elder, Perry Wandin, which really set the tone for our journey, and then travelled to Sydney to understand the difference in state approaches to education. It was a fantastic opportunity to dive into the dynamic Australian K-12 education scene and gain invaluable insights and learnings. Our #EdTech lead, Jeannette Connon, designed a jam-packed programme with a terrific line-up of engaging speakers as well as dinners with guests from across the education sector. A huge thankyou to those who contributed to the programme, for being so generous in sharing their knowledge and time: Alice Zaslavsky, David Linke, Elizabeth Wilson, Colin Axup, Andrew Dalgleish, Zhining Yang, Natalie Mactier, Danny Phillips, Tony Panetta, Maurice Cummins, Mark Cheeseman, Andrew Smith, Craig Wheele, Jo Quinlan, Michelle Michael, Dan Hart, Harrison Kelly, Sally W. #SeeTomorrowFirst #EduTechConnect #AustraliaEdTech #Innovation #Education #Technology See Tomorrow First, Bejouncee Malifa, Bella Katz, Cath Cooksley-Little, Elizabeth Preece, Hamish Campbell, Ian Kingham, Lucy Powell, Tanan Zorigt

The New Zealand Māori creative (digital) business delegation to South China led by Asia New Zealand Foundation (ANZF) and with active on the ground support and connections from New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) is making significant strides. From the 22nd to the 24th of this month, 12 New Zealand Māori creative (digital) entrepreneurs visited China, engaging in highly immersive interactions and exclusive experiences with Chinese sector experts, business leaders, public agencies, and industry leaders. The delegation visited major companies such as Tencent Games (the largest gaming company in China), 37 Interactive Entertainment (Shanghai) Technology Co., Ltd. (a prominent entertainment company), IDMT (a leading digital content and cultural industry firm), 广州凡拓数字创意科技股份有限公司 (a digital creative technology company), and Shenzhen DAMODA(a leading drone manufacturing factory and supplier in China), exploring potential avenues for cooperation. They also engaged with organizations like the Guangzhou Gaming Association, Guangzhou Information Association, Guangzhou Science and Technology Innovation Association, Guangzhou CCPIT, and Shenzhen CCPIT. This visit has not only helped build valuable connections with Chinese business leaders but also provided deep insights into the Chinese creative and digital market. The delegation aims to leverage this knowledge to foster future collaboration in gaming, creative, digital technology, and cultural protection. Our journey continues with great enthusiasm!
