Great tip on eye animation from Philippe

Control your eyes. 👀 A mistake I see too often in student's work. When watching an actor, you will be looking 99% of the time to the eyes/nose triangle. That's just the way it works. That's the way humans work. We are magnetically attracted to those eyes. Because we read so much in them. Now because, humans are so experienced at watching eyes, they're also pretty good at telling if someone isn't looking into someone's gaze properly. Humans can feel super tiny changes in eyes direction. Don't believe me? Ok, let's have some fun and do an experiment 😀: Your right ear is approximately 7 centimeters away from your right eye. Small distance in the scheme of things, right? Now, ask a friend to look at you directly in your eyes and then, tell them to slightly shift their eyesight to your right ear. There. Did you see it? 😂 You TOTALLY noticed the change in his eye direction. And that eye direction change, you might interpret it as a lack of interest or even an expression of shyness. Definitely something abnormal if you are animating a "normal" dialogue. If you are shooting video references, choose a tiny point somewhere to focus, not something big like a chair or a TV. Grab a piece of post it, rip a sticky corner and stick it where you want to focus. So animation wise, what's happening here? Well, 99% of the time, for the exception of maybe following a fly in your room, your eyes will rarely glide and slide. They will jump from one point to another, laser focus. If your eyes aren't locked this way in your acting, the whole shot will crumble. Lock those eyes. 👀😉 -------------------------------------------------------- Looking for more animation tips like this? Animators, here's a quick tip to remember when animating brows. Brows move "up and out" and "down and in." Respecting this relationship will help sell a sense of underlying facial musculature and believability. Seeing the distance between the inner brows change on these transitions as well as introducing a subtle arc on the inner brows can add a lot of life and fleshiness to your characters. Note: Having your brows both up and in will make your character looked stressed out or scared. Reminder, there are only 5 Days Left to register for CG RIFF's upcoming Facial Animation Boot Camp where we will spend 4 weeks diving into all things facial animation. Come deepen your understanding of how to properly use the powerful tool that is the face. 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗷𝗼𝗯𝘀. Research has shown that employees don’t quit the job itself. They leave the following. A low salary doesn't allow them to have a good quality of life. A lousy manager who lacks: - 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀, - 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, - 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀, - 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, - 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆 can make an employee feel undervalued, unappreciated, and unsupported. Similarly, a lack of recognition for their hard work and contributions can make employees feel unappreciated and demotivated. Furthermore, a toxic work environment, such as one characterized by: - 𝗴𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗽, - 𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗼𝗿 - 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, can lead to emotional distress, burnout, and a negative impact on mental health. Therefore, employers need to prioritize creating: - 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, - 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸, - 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, - 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁, and ensuring that managers are trained to lead with empathy and respect. 𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲. Agree?

A Character Designer Shows How to Find Inspiration in Things Around 💡 Check out one of the videos by artist Shiba showing that anything you can see on the streets or at home – be it a pair of boots, a lantern, a flower, gloves, or a vase – can be turned into a beautiful character design. It all depends on how you use patterns you see. More from the illustrator: https://lnkd.in/gv8aYGdV #characterart #characterdesign #art #artist #2dart #2dartist #illustration #conceptart #design
