Taramea Bay's playground is ready to roll for the holidays! We’re proud to have been part of Southland District Council's redevelopment of this beautiful bayside spot. The new playground is jam-packed with super cool equipment like the Wave Rider, Surf-Shop Junior Ship Module and ‘Storm & Cyclone’ Inclusive Carousels. As you can see, we totally embraced a beach-y theme for this playground project, which was shaped by the voices of local children and parents. Riverton Primary School students even reviewed the playground design and provided their expert feedback during the planning stage! For the next three months, the Tunatuna the Murihiku, Southland’s pop up pump track will be located in the park, making this the place to be for some school holiday fun! #PlaygroundCentre #TarameaBay #CommunityPlayground #PlaygroundDesign #InclusivePlay

Power of Play: Naturally Good Fun Time spent outdoors in nature is essential for everyone’s wellbeing. 💭 As Psychology Today explains: “Spending time in nature helps children and adults alike become calmer, happier, and better able to manage challenges.” With the lure of outdoor fun, natural play environments offer countless benefits, from boosting mental health to cognitive development. Research shows that outdoor play also improves focus, reduces stress, and encourages creativity and problem solving. For kids, natural spaces also inspire more active play, enhancing physical health and motor skills. All while fostering a deeper connection to the world around them! By blending play with nature, playgrounds help nurture this connection—opening the door to all the physical, mental, and emotional benefits it provides. Let’s create more opportunities for every child to grow, thrive, and explore! Playgrounds and parks are the go-to spots for family fun during the summer months, but creating play spaces that stay comfortable in the heat takes thoughtful design. Here’s how we do it … ☀️ Durable, Heat-Resistant Materials - Our equipment is made from a combination of materials, including heat and UV-resistant plastics, that can withstand the summer sun while maintaining their colour. 🌳 Natural Timber - Timber absorbs warmth without becoming uncomfortably hot to the touch, making it ideal for outdoor play. 😎 Shaded Play Elements - Our towers and play structures are designed with shaded areas, offering places for kids to play out of the sun. 🍃 Cooling Landscaping - Strategically placed trees and shade structures are essential for creating comfortable spaces for both play and relaxation. We also recommend surfacing options that provide a soft, safe landing while staying cool under little feet. At Playground Centre, every detail is designed with summer play in mind — keeping it cool, safe, and fun for all! #PlaygroundDesign #PlaygroundEquipment #SustainablePlaygrounds #ClimateResilience #PlaygroundCentre #PlaySafe #StayCool

The Power of Play for Mental Wellbeing Play is powerful! It’s proven to lower stress, boost self-esteem, and build emotional resilience. When kids play, they gain confidence by overcoming obstacles and mastering their environment. Globally, the benefits are clear: 📚 A University of Cambridge study found active play significantly improves children’s mood. In Canada, research shows outdoor play reduces stress. And in Japan, daily free play has been found to lower anxiety in students. Adults benefit, too. Play is a powerful antidote to stress for people of every age and stage, and it has been linked to improved feelings of optimism and cognitive flexibility. Do you believe in the power of play?
