Port Marlborough are thrilled to be partnering with the Marlborough Environment Awards and to be able to support this important kaupapa. Having long been associated with the Marine Category we have seen first hand the amazing mahi and innovation from Marlborough businesses demonstrating that good environmental practices lead to good business outcomes. At Port Marlborough, we are on our own journey as we aim to become an environmentally restorative port that drives success for Marlborough. We are converting land to native forests, increasing biodiversity and creating a permanent carbon sink; we’re working on a project to restore kelp forests in the Sounds and of course our new tug Kaiana in equppied with the highest level of emission control. But we all still have a long way to go and organisations like the Marlborough Environmental Awards Trust are leading the way by encouraging thought-leadership in this space. So it was a huge honour for us to be given the opportunity to become naming sponsors of the Awards. Thank you to all the Trustees. E ki ana te whakatauki: Me mahi tahi tātou Mō te oranga o te katoa We should work together for the wellbeing of all.

Our engineers recently captured detailed images of our linkspan infrastructure at Port Marlborough. In a one-hour flight, 750 photographs were produced, then processed with photogrammetry software to create a high-resolution model. This advanced technique allows us to inspect areas previously accessible only by crane, enhancing our asset management capabilities. All our marinas, ports, and key structures will undergo similar surveys this year. Great work by our engineering team!
Port Marlborough NZ Ltd Engineers recently deployed their RTK Survey Drone to capture 750 photographs from every angle of the Interislander K-Ship’s Linkspan in Picton. The flight lasted an hour, after which we used Skand to apply photogrammetry, stitching the photographs together to create a high-resolution model viewable on their web platform. This allows us to navigate around and see areas previously accessible only by crane and view the model and associated photograph side by side. This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to achieve optimal asset management. All of our marinas, port, and key structures have or will be surveyed this year, and are using AI technology to assist with identifying any changes between surveys, along with cracks, rust or other defects Skand #assetmanagement #civilengineering #PortsNZ #Drones #Structural
