We are excited to spotlight Ruihi, one of our incredible wahine crane and straddle drivers at the port 🏗️ Ruihi joined the port in 2021 after relocating back to Aotearoa from Sydney. She is a proud member of Maritime Union of New Zealand and part of our Taumata rōpū (Māori leadership group), which brings the port’s Māori Outcomes Strategy framework to life. Her role involves operating a crane sitting as high as 45 metres, loading and unloading containers on and off ships at the berth. She also drives straddles, sitting as high as 13 metres, stacking and moving containers. These containers are then transported to trucks, allowing people and communities in the region to access their goods ⭐ Ruihi is proud to work at the port as a strong wahine Māori, operating heavy machinery in a traditionally male-dominated industry. Like us, she would love to see more wāhine joining the industry 👷♀️ Learn more about her journey and the importance of her role here: https://lnkd.in/gizqnuME. #aklport #portlife #staffhero #ourpeople

Over the school holidays, we launched our first youth leadership programme, POAL x Tamaliki Ohi Kaiga, in partnership with The Salvation Army 😊 We had a wonderful cohort of 17 inquisitive young leaders, all family members of our port staff. The programme included activities onsite at the port (including a port bus tour 🚌), time in the community, and a 3-day camp at the Blue Mountain Adventure Centre (BMAC) in National Park. It was a joy to meet the whānau of our staff and have them visit the port, seeing firsthand the hard work their parents and family members put in to keep things running! The programme concluded last Friday with a graduation ceremony and celebration for all the children who participated 🎓 It was a fantastic week investing in our rangatahi 🌟 #aklport #portlife #leadership #rangatahi Vanessa Wolfgramm

🚢 A tour of the Port! 🚢 With school holidays coming to an end, I decided to take a day off work and spend some quality time with my daughter. We hopped on a Port of Auckland bus tour, and what a great experience it was! The tour took us right onto the wharf, giving us a close-up look at operations that are usually hidden from view. We watched refrigerated containers (reefers) being moved, witnessed a crane offloading a container for a waiting straddle, and got a glimpse into the 'ro-ro' car operations. 🚗 It was a fascinating behind-the-scenes experience that brought a whole new perspective on how goods make their way through the port and into/out of the country. My daughter learned so much—and it brought back memories for me! Kudos to Port of Auckland for opening their doors like this. It’s a fantastic way to make learning both fun and tangible. I’d love to see more businesses offer similar opportunities for families to see how things really work behind the scenes! Thanks Roger Gray and team! #AucklandHeritageFestival

What a wonderful time it was opening the port gates for our public bus tours in collaboration with Auckland Heritage Festival 🚌 Auckland Heritage Festival is an annual city-wide event celebrating the city’s diverse heritage. It’s a great chance to explore exhibitions, walks, talks — and of course, bus tours. The city of Auckland and the port have grown together on the Waitematā and Manukau Harbour for more than 175 years, so we were stoked to be part of this special event. We are so proud of our port and love seeing the public enjoy it too. We look forward to seeing those of you who have tickets for our Thursday tours! 🎟️ #aklport #aucklandheritagefestival #portlife
