Providing families with children in hospital an essential lifeline, nutritious meals, 24/7 care and whānau support!

About us

RMHC® New Zealand supports families when their child is in a hospital away from home. The Ronald McDonald House® and Ronald McDonald Family Room® programmes take care of the practical things in life so families can focus on their child staying in a hospital away from home. Each year we offer over 3,700 families across New Zealand accommodation, meals and support free of charge. This helps to relieve stresses like paying for a place to stay near the hospital and food during a challenging time. Our donors make it possible to provide children with better health outcomes, improve the mental well-being of their families, and ease their financial burdens by simply giving them what they need most - each other.

  • The Caci Clinic Whakatane hosted their wonderful event, 'Lunch for a Cause' over the weekend - presented by Hilary Barry. Owner Annemarie (pictured, left) organised the event; she spent a lot of time at Ronald McDonald House with husband Mike, when their son Joshua battled childhood cancer. This amazing event raised almost $16,000 to keep families together - wow! Thank you so much Caci Whakatane, and all that were involved in bringing this event together

  • ⭐Happy birthday to us! RMHC NZ turned 35 this year after being established in New Zealand as an independent charity in 1989 ⭐ Our mission now, as it was then, is to keep families together when their child is in hospital away from home - positively impacting on them by allowing them to focus on what matters most: each other. This month we had two other major milestones to celebrate: RMHC turning 50 years young globally, and our Domain House turning 30. We welcomed staff, volunteers, families and supporters into the House to come together and acknowledge the decades of service to Kiwi families in need. Here's to making a difference for the next 35 years! Support our mission by donating today https://bit.ly/3NJhhvC 🏠❤️

  • We’re excited to have launched our McHappy Day fundraiser in partnership with McDonald's New Zealand. Their unwavering support enables us to continue the important work of keeping families close while their child is in hospital. From now until November 2nd, there are plenty of ways to get involved. You can purchase a collectable sticker buddy (Grimace, Birdie, or Hamburglar) for just $2 each or all 3 for $5. And on November 2nd, $1 from every Big Mac sold will go directly to RMHC New Zealand. This wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of McDonald’s staff, our team, and the incredible support of Kiwis across the country. Thank you to everyone who is helping to make a difference. A special thanks to TVNZ for airing this heartwarming footage on Seven Sharp last night highlighting the meaningful impact your support has on families.

  • RMHC NZ is extremely honoured to be a recent benefactor of Sika Foundation's generosity. The Sika Foundation have donated over seven tonnes of venison to various charities in the past three years; 80kgs have been donated to our Houses so far to be used to feed the families staying with us. The foundation’s Cam Speedy explains, “RMHC NZ strongly represents our values of respect, responsibility and connection. We are all about sharing with those in need.” Thank you so much Sika Foundation for your kindness, we look forward to a long partnership ❤️

  • Agents from Ray White New Zealand popped into our Christchurch House to find out who won their annual "cook off" week - where they each cooked for the families and were voted on. Congratulations to Red Chili Property Management who took out the top spot! The competition was very close, with all agencies putting a creative spin on their night - from Kiwi BBQs to Mexican feasts, make your own dessert stations and more. Thank you Ray White, for your ongoing support of RMHC NZ nationwide. We appreciate you ❤️

  • Our friends from North Harbour Rugby Union (NHRU) visited our Domain House last week, to the delight of staff and families alike. The club hosted a charity match on the weekend against Manawatu which included a raffle and auction; the event was extremely successful! This is our second year in partnership with NHRU and we are blown away by their generosity - from the entire team at RMHC NZ including the families we serve, thank you ❤️ 🏉

  • 2023 was a record year for RMHC NZ. We provided 4,452 families with a home away from home while their child was in hospital, saving them nearly $10 million in accommodation, food, and parking costs. Our newly released 2023 Social Impact Report demonstrates the value we bring to both the families walking through our doors, and New Zealand society as a whole. We're proud to have never turned away an eligible family, providing a 'home-away-from-home' when they need it most - and we have every intention of keeping this cornerstone promise into the future. To learn more about what we achieved last year, you can read the full report here: https://adobe.ly/3XtlKIx

  • RMHC NZ has been a 'home-away-from-home' for families with a child in hospital for over three decades, and the results of our latest Social Impact Report show that demand continues to grow. We were thrilled to welcome ThreeNews into RMHC's Auckland Domain House this week to discuss the challenges we are facing keeping up with demand. • We had the honour of hosting Miles Toyota and Canterbury Rugby at our Christchurch House this week. Miles whipped up a feast in the kitchen for the families to enjoy, including an extremely delicious South African dessert! They also organised a cookie decorating activity that the rugby lads got amongst - much to the children's delight. Thank you all for your ongoing support, we appreciate you! 🏉 ❤️ 🚗
