Automatic project time tracking and budgeting designed for content creators, photographers and videographers.

About us

Shutterspeed helps content creators improve how they run their business by giving them insights on budget/time/cost overruns. We've all under quoted and underestimated a project before, and eating into your own profit margin is never nice. Shutterspeed helps you track time across each project automatically without having to start or stop a timer. We do it all in the background with as little intrusion as possible. Our vision is to capture budget and time data and display valuable insights on project and business performance so you can better calibrate your rates, time estimates or ways of doing business. We're trying to put the knowledge and experience of a more mature production house into newer startup and freelance businesses.

Time is money... When our founders first set out to build shutterspeed, it was clear there was no tool in the industry that was fit for the volatile workflows of a modern digital creator. With production being a time based industry, it was crazy how hard it was to reliably keep track of time across all your projects, especially when things get busy. With shutterspeed being fully automatic, you can set and forget the tracker and focus on your creative endeavours. By frequently checking back on project dashboard, you can understand how your last project compares with your previous projects, and work out areas where you might have spent a little too long getting the shot, or had a few too many revisions.

Review: DJI Ronin-S2 For the longest time DJI has dominated the Gimbal market, where there are many options to consider when looking to invest in your next video stabilisation solution. Understanding that the Ronin-S4 is on the market currently, we've never felt the need to upgrade from our Ronin-S2 because its just SO GOOD. This was a huge jump from the original Ronin-S and the product really felt like it was created for Pro's compared to its predecessor . It's got more than enough power to fly any mirrorless camera with a decent lens, with the technology and features in the S2 are still more than sufficient for any production requirements you may have, plus you can probably get a deal on a one of them in 2024.

Teal & Orange: Overrated There once was a time in the late 2010s when teal & orange first cropped up on travel YouTube videos, painting blue water and sun-kissed beaches. One simple Google search would provide a wash of free downloads to "that teal & orange" 3D LUT, and from there social media was painted blue and orange. Times have changed now but occasionally you see a blast from the past of this over saturated, dreamlike world painted by it's colour profile. Every scene deserves it's own unique flare, so if you are using 3D LUTS to colour grade, try incorporate many different looks to each video, giving each scene a fresh palette.

Review: RED Raven 4.5K When it comes to cinema cameras, there are only a handful of options to choose from, but the industry titans Arri & RED are the real contenders in the space. The RED Raven, though a fairly dated piece of kit in 2024, can be picked up for a very reasonable price and the footage this camera is capable of would match any modern day cinema package in fair lighting. This camera can still push high frame rates in very reasonable bitrates, producing stunning footage no matter where you point it. You can have more fun with this camera in the edit suite, when you get into the RED RAW settings, you'll be amazing the amount of data and detail this 8 year old camera can produce.

It can feel like magic... We've worked out a way by analysing the digital breadcrumbs attached to the files you interact with on any given project to work out where you are investing time at each state of your video projects... We're constantly working on new features and functionality to cater to more use cases, platforms, NLE's, applications and types of digital creators including photographers. There are some exciting future updates that will only expand the capabilities of shutterspeed.

Vintage Lenses: Underrated It can be very easy to always want the shiny new lens that your favourite camera manufacturer has just launched. Image Stabilisation, 9 Bladed Iris, Nano Coating, Linear Focus Motors.... the features definitely sound attractive. It wasn't until I bought a bunch of old vintage lenses in a kit with an old film camera, and adapted them to the Sony A7S III when I could see how cool and different these lenses look. They give such a natural, grainy & vintage look to the footage that no LUT or overlay could quite replicate. We're not saying shoot the whole of your next commercial on one of these (unless the style aligns), but keep one in your travel case to capture some super unique B-Roll!

Review: Tilta Hydra Alien (Car Mounting Kit) If you are wanting to film commercial vehicle to vehicle, and your production budgets are limited, one of the most effective tools is the Tilta Hydra Alien paired with the DJI Ronin S2. It takes a little bit of practice to get this thing setup and tuned correctly, but the results are CLASS. The mounting configurations are super versatile and the price point is very achievable for many small to medium sized production operators. We've got hundreds of hours using our rig and never experienced any loss of suction on the cups, however stropping the rig to your chase car is essential for safe practice.
