Over my career I have watched some people get extremely frustrated when their design comes in over budget. Its one of the reasons that I developed a Design Consultation as a first step in my Architectural Process. Architects have a choice, to design to the aspirations or to design to the budget. Seldom are they the same thing. Balancing the aspirations against the build budget and not the project budget is a critical exercise to get right at the start, to avoid disappointment.
