The end of financial year for 2024 is nearly here. If your business carries stock (either to sell or to use in production), you need to do a stock take at 31 March and send that to us so we can include in your 2024 financials. This is a compulsory chore. Unless you stock is under $10k, then you can estimate it. 31st March is the middle of Easter Weekend this year, so if you aren't open then grab a few team members and do it at close of business before Easter. Otherwise it needs to be done before opening on the 1st April. To get your 2025 financial year off to a good start, why not commit to making some positive changes for your business and personal life. This email includes some ABCs of Bookkeeping. It's easy with Xero to think all your records are taken care of, but you still need to keep paperwork, receipts, details of your customers and heap of other compliance things. Not to mention its best practice to have everything tidy and up to date, not just in case IRD come looking, but for the banks or other lenders if you need reports in a hurry, and speeds up your annual accounts process if everything is already saved in Xero. Talk to us if you need any help with loading receipts in, we have an experienced team waiting to help. Then there's a business plan. Not a daunting task at all, but it does require you to put some deep thinking into what you actually want your business to provide you with in your personal life. I highly recommend the process because if nothing else it renews your enthusiasm for your businesses and usually takes you back to your reasons for starting it in the first place! Talk to Gillian about a business plan and setting some goals for the year ahead.

We've answered this question multiple times this year already: How can we be in profit when we have no money in the bank? Do I am rolling this article out again as a quick reminder of the differences - remember our tax legislation requires you to pay tax on your profits based on when you send invoices and receive bills, not when they are paid. Unlike GST, where if you are on a payments basis, you pay GST based on when you get paid/pay your bills. Do you understand the difference between profit and cash? Are you improving your profits but not seeing an improvement in your bank balance? We can help you increase both your profit and your cash! #CashIsKing #GetInTouch #FinancialAwareness
