"There are those who want a swimming pool in their home, while those who have it barely use it. Those who have lost a loved one miss them deeply, while others who hold them close often complain about them. Who doesn't have a partner longs for it, but who has it, sometimes doesn't value it. He who is hungry would give everything for a plate of food, while he who has plenty complains about the taste. The one who doesn't have a car dreams it, while the one who has it always looks for a better one. The key is to be grateful, to stop looking at what we have and to understand that, somewhere, someone would give everything for what you already have and don't appreciate." - Hiroyuki Sanada It's easy to get caught up in what's lacking or to take things for granted, but shifting our focus to the present and being thankful for what we have can bring so much joy and contentment. Gratitude helps us: 1. Re-evaluate priorities 2. Find happiness in simple things 3. Strengthen relationships 4. Cultivate positivity 5. Appreciate life's blessings What resonated with you most from Hiroyuki’s quote? #gratitude #positivevibes #mindfulness #selfcare #positivity #appreciation

It is surprising to see the amount of Leaders and Managers who still embrace the “crack the whip” mentality, and gauge this as the makings of a successful leader. 🤦♀️ Hate to break it to you, but you’re wrong. 👎🏽 These types of “leaders” are the poison to any business - it can be slow or fast acting, but the after effects are always detrimental. A REAL leader appreciates their workers efforts, and guides them to be successful. This boosts confidence, moral and productivity in the workplace and results in a work environment people WANT to work in. A bad leader leaves their employees feeling dread every time they enter through the office doors. Showing a person #appreciation can be one of the most powerful things you do today. Even if you’re not in a leadership role, engaging in this interaction is a crucial first step towards moving in the right direction. 🙌🏼 Thank you Lottie Whyte for sharing 👏🏼 #leadership #management #teamwork

Your title doesn't make you a leader. How you choose to treat your employees does. Great leaders make people feel great.  Making your team feel valued and appreciated everyday is the most powerful thing you can do. What to do as a leader: ✅ Say thank you: ↳ It can be as simple as dropping them a note at the end of the week to say ‘thank you for everything you did this week’. ✅ Have an open conversation about pay: ↳ Pay people what they are worth. Prompt open discussion about pay and have a clear understanding of each person’s market value. ✅ Demonstrate Balance: ↳ No one feels appreciated when they are burnt out. Make a point of demonstrating work life balance so others can follow your lead. ✅ Have purposeful 121s: ↳ Ensure your one-on-one meetings are opportunities for a meaningful conversation about the good and the bad. What to avoid as a leader: ❌ Public Criticism: ↳ Don’t criticise in front of others. ❌ Neglecting Their Life Outside Work: ↳ Don’t ignore the pressures they face outside of their job. ❌ Taking the Credit: ↳ Don’t take the credit for another person's work. ❌ Setting unrealistic goals: ↳ Don't set targets that are impossible to meet. Be the leader you always wanted. What are the best ways you've seen a leader motivate & appreciate a team? Drop them in the comments 👇🏽 ------ ♻️ Repost to support the leaders in your network. 🔔 Follow Lottie Whyte for daily posts.

    Career Coach

The primary part of my job at One Tree Hill College is as Gateway Programme Coordinator. The Gateway Programme is a government initiative for year 12 and 13 students, which effectively allows them to ‘try before they buy’ a career path they are investigating. The programme is two-pronged. The student is required to complete approximately 20 Unit Standard credits, which count towards NCEA and partake in a placement. I have 13 students who have completed either Computer Engineering or Software Development courses through Techtorium. They each require a couple of days of work experience. I have contacted many organisations and so far only have three placements arranged. I also know I am not the only school struggling. I am disappointed in the NZ technology industry’s lack of support for such programmes. I don’t want these students to be let down. If you know of any organisations I could reach out to who may be able to help, please message me and help me restore my faith in the industry.
