The Gift Trust's Yvonne Trask was fortunate enough to be invited to dinner with the staff and board of the newly established Pacific Feminist Fund and a group of Pōneke based Pasifika women movers and shakers. It was incredible to be in the room with such a group of powerhouse women, all doing such remarkable work all around our beautiful oceanic home! Thanks so much, Carolyn Jalal, Virisila Buadromo, Michelle Reddy and Karen Edwards. We're looking forward to working with you more!

Thanks to one of some of our donors we have had the opportunity to support Kore Hiakai Zero Hunger Collective, which means we are regularly inspired by their work. This piece on Kai Motuhake (food sovereignty) is outstanding and a concept we're seeing more people in the food world embracing as Aotearoa's unique, whenua based solution to the ever growing disconnect between people and their food. In February of this year, Cheryl and Yvonne, as part of their Ki te Hoe wānanga series, had the chance to spend some time in Te Whānau ā Apanui lands in the East Cape and saw and ate the outcomes of this wonderful, local and delicious philosophy. Ka pai, Kore Hiakai Zero Hunger Collective! https://lnkd.in/gHqmUM45

The Gift Trust has enjoyed some great opportunities to play the role of intermediary in some very exciting funding lately and this article by Hilary Pennington from the Ford Foundation has us feeling like we're a part of a great new movement. https://lnkd.in/dA6Uvfwg

"Under enduring pressure te reo Māori has shown it will adapt and survive. It grows with our people, our culture and our environment." The Gift Trust staff have been studying te reo Māori together every week for a year or so and while most of us still panic for a moment when we are asked, 'Kei te pēhea koe?' we're making progress in learning this vital language. Ake ake ake! Kia kaha te reo Māori! Happy Māori language week from The Gift Trust.

An exciting post from our Feminista Fund regarding supporting not for profits in a way that gives them the chance to innovate, strategise and simply get on with their work! https://lnkd.in/grww4shV
Philanthropist, campaigner, entrepreneur, founder Women & Girls International Dev Network, Feminista Fund, RefillNZ
The article delves into the challenging expectations of donors in the non-profit sector, highlighting how these demands can compromise the authenticity and effectiveness of organizations working towards social change. The pressure to achieve quick and lasting impact is likened to unrealistic demands placed on a cricket team, which can detract from the noble goals of the social sector. This issue is not limited to a specific region but resonates globally, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach in funding partnerships. Be keen to hear views! Join The Gift Trust's own Jackson Lacy in the latest podcast from The Price of Purpose! https://lnkd.in/gQDYPixN
An experienced for-purpose founder, leader and director focused on philanthropy, equity, community and moving resources more effectively to where they're needed most.
If you're a #philanthropy nerd like me, then I highly recommend listening to episode 5 of "The Price of Purpose". The conversation tackles some big questions for the sector. Can philanthropy be progressive and work radically with community? Can it exist without entrenching existing inequality? Can the tensions between te Ao Māori and the structures of philanthropy be resolved? My favourite part though, is imagining possible futures, and discussing how we get there. Because aspiration is one thing, but what we really need is action. Great kōrero from young (and youth adjacent) experts and an absolute delight. Huge shout out to our donor Marcus Daniell OLY for his appointment to the International Olympic Committee's Athlete's Commission. Marcus and his fellow philanthropic Olympian Hugo Inglis OLY have obviously been blitzing the Olympic village with news of their High Impact Athletes' Fund. The donations from Olympians are flowing into the fund, gentlemen! The fund supports charities working in global health and poverty, animal welfare and climate change. https://lnkd.in/eMWAp285 https://lnkd.in/gAu-Vgdw
This weekend was one of the most surreal of my life: Elected by my peers to the IOC Athletes' Commission, swearing the Olympic Oath in front of all IOC members whilst holding the flag, and walking out into a stadium of 80,000 spectators and thousands of athletes to be announced and to acknowledge the amazing efforts of the 45,000 Olympic volunteers. We even got to give a few volunteer representatives some flowers and hugs! Tom Cruise came and said g'day in the tunnel before we walked out (though he seemed more interested in the lady candidates). Standard Sunday. Really looking forward to getting stuck into the work, and will do my best to uphold the extremely high standards that NZ legends Barbara Kendall.CNZM.MBE.OLY and Sarah Walker OLY set before me in this role.
