We design solutions that help people and the planet thrive.

About us

ThinkPlace is a strategic design consultancy with a global network operating across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Kenya, Senegal and U.S.A. For 15+ years, we have been tackling some of the world’s most complex challenges using design-led, human-centred approaches. We design with change leaders from the public, private and the non-profit sector and engage with the complexity and the messiness of real human experiences — how people live, work and play; how people experience products, services, regulations; how they navigate systems they interact with — health, education, energy, economic, regulatory, social welfare, to name a few. Globally we are a team of over 150 people who are passionate about making the world a better place. ThinkPlace has adopted the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as our guiding purpose. Every project we take on, all over the world, must ‘move the needle’ on these goals.

During the Aspen Opportunity Youth Forum Fall Convening hosted in Aspen last week, ThinkPlace U.S. team members had the opportunity to lead participants in an interactive session focused on answering the question, “Can design accelerate the activation of Belonging, Meaning, Wellbeing, and Purpose (BMWP) concepts and practice in real-world settings?” ThinkPlace used case studies from their work supporting BMWP Grantee Partner Sites in Hawaii, Denver, and Montana to showcase how tools like ecosystem maps, journey maps, and personas can help partners identify opportunities where they can deepen and transform systems to address root cause issues collectively. Representatives from Montana BMWP Grantee Partner sites discussed their experiences using design tools to align around a collective vision for a statewide coalition for BMWP. They reflected on the ways in which the design activation allowed them to visualize the current experience and develop a collective understanding of BMWP and the opportunities for collective change. If you are interested in learning more about how you can use human centered design to humanize complex systems, please join us for a webinar on Thursday, November 14th at 10-11:30 AM, or 12:30-2PM (all times are PST). For the past six months, ThinkPlace has partnered with the UNDP Global Centre, Singapore to address the growing threat of scams in developing countries. Our coalition-based approach aims to connect a diverse set of global organisations - regulators, law enforcement, banks, telecoms, social media platforms, digital services, civil society, and more - to mobilise quickly through shared capabilities. The first milestone is the launch of an Anti-Scam Handbook. The handbook is designed to bring these stakeholders together as a connected ecosystem, equipped to create real impact. It enables these actors to better see themselves, and act, as a shared system, backed by global relationships and connections. Read the UNDP’s press release and download the handbook below. We’re thrilled to have been awarded a Good Design Award for our transformative partnership with the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission.   Alarming findings from the 2021 Royal Commission highlighted serious failings in the aged care sector, amplifying the need for urgent action and recommendations for regulatory reform. One critical task was to improve the job-readiness of Quality Assessors — the people responsible for evaluating aged care providers. The ACQSC found that while assessors were passing the qualification course, many lacked a deep understanding of caregiving complexities, resulting in inadequate evaluations.   In partnership with The Ed Institute, ThinkPlaceX Australia designed an innovative learning environment to better support assessors and enhance their job-readiness. The result is a Learning & Development journey that equips assessors with the robust skills needed to make a real impact. The judges commented: “Congratulations to the team behind this exceptional training service for securing an Australian Good Design Award. Your innovative approach to swiftly enhancing the capabilities of the Quality Assessor workforce through modern educational models and a world-class learning experience is highly commendable. By fostering a high-performance culture, you are equipping assessors with the essential skills to expertly evaluate and advance improvements in aged care. This service represents a crucial advancement in ensuring that older Australians receive the safe, high-quality, and respectful care they deserve. Congratulations on this significant achievement.”   Read more about this award-winning design journey here: https://lnkd.in/ePMWy9eH Janine Kuehlich Belinda Cooper Jessica Wright Emily Brown Ben Hall Stephanie Hathaway
