About us

Tonkin + Taylor is New Zealand’s leading environmental and engineering consultancy, with offices across Aotearoa and Australia, employing over 1,000 people. We’re proudly 100% employee owned and operated, and are known for our technical specialists and industry leading engineers, scientists, planners and project managers. We’ve built our business on solid enduring relationships with central and local government, major international donor agencies, commercial organisations, developers, contractors, individuals, and other consultants. Tonkin + Taylor has provided specialist environmental and engineering consulting services since 1959. Our specialist focus is in the fields of geotechnical, civil and water resources engineering, environmental science and resource management. How it all began... Tonkin + Taylor was established as a partnership in Auckland in 1959 by two engineers involved in the construction of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. The company grew steadily as a specialist geotechnical consultancy, developing water resources and specialist civil engineering skills in the 1970s and entering environmental consultancy in the early 1980s. We were involved in New Zealand’s engineering export efforts in the early 1970s and have been operating in Malaysia for over 40 years and the Philippines for approximately 25 years. In 2006 we entered the Australian market and now operate nationally, with offices in Victoria and Queensland. For more information please visit our website: www.tonkintaylor.co.nz

A special thanks to Tonkin + Taylor for partnering at our 2024 Maritime & Coastal Infrastructure Forum. Dr. Tom Shand from Tonkin + Taylor delivered an engaging and insightful presentation on the use of "Trigger Action Response Plans to manage hazard on Coastal Infrastructure – development and use cases". Tom highlighted key strategies to manage coastal infrastructure hazards through Trigger Action Response Plans (TARPs), using a compelling case study on how an earthquake triggered slips onto Ohau Point on New Zealand's South Island. His expertise on proactive hazard management left delegates with valuable insights into coastal infrastructure resilience. #Maritime #Coastal #Engineering #CivilEngineering #PublicWorks #Infrastructure #CoastalEngineering #Forum #TARPs #Resilience #MaritimeEngineering #ProfessionalDevelopment #Networking
