Native species need to get from A to B, just like we do. But instead of cars, buses, and trains - wildlife corridors are one of their preferred modes of transport! Stretches of natural habitat that connect isolated ecosystems, wildlife corridors allow birds, bats, reptiles, plants, and insects to migrate, forage, breed, and thrive. Think of them as nature’s hidden highways. 🛣️ 🚗 Only, they’re not just highways. They’re lifelines. For the thousands of endemic species found only in Aotearoa. For us. For our planet. Increasing habitat fragmentation caused by urbanisation, agriculture and industrialisation is putting pressure on wildlife corridors and the species that rely on them. But native forest restoration has a vital role to play in strengthening and reconnecting them. 🌿 👇🏽 Read how via the article linked in the comments. 📷 Shoutout to our amazing endemic species pictured here: kea, miromiro (tomtit), wētā, kahukura (New Zealand red admiral), and takahē. 🙌🏽 #NatureBasedSolutions #BiodiversityAction #BiodiversityMatters #NativeForestRestoration

About us
Trees That Count mobilises businesses, planters, and individuals to restore Aotearoa’s unique biodiversity, take action on climate risk and grow a brighter future through the planting of millions of native trees. We connect businesses and donors to planting projects around the country to accelerate their mahi. With support to every corner of the country we help organisations looking for a genuine way to make a demonstrable, positive impact on the environment in the regions they operate in, or at a national level. Trees That Count grew from the Project Crimson Trust, an environment charity that has been at the forefront of community restoration in Aotearoa since 1990.

📣 Nature is sending us a warning. Our carbon sinks are failing. But it’s not too late to act. 🌏 Carbon sinks are nature’s inbuilt weapon against greenhouse gasses, playing a vital role in absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and helping us combat climate change. They’re our oceans, forests, soils, peatlands and wetlands. But in 2023, our hottest year on record, land-based carbon sinks showed concerning signs of decline. And our oceans are struggling, too. There’s hope, though. Healthy, biodiverse native forests are powerful carbon sinks and they’ve shown greater resilience to climate impacts than monocultures (single crops). Right now, nature restoration projects across Aotearoa are helping to protect and grow them. 🌳 By funding native trees, you can help support these critical restoration efforts – and in turn, help strengthen our vulnerable ecosystems and future climate defences. 👉🏽 Nature action is climate action.

🌳 A restoration win. 👏 That's 64,000 native plants creating vibrant future forests. Te Mata Park is a key biodiversity corridor connecting Cape Sanctuary to Mahia Peninsula and beyond - with wide reaching ecological benefits. Since 2020, Trees That Count is thrilled to have funded 16,550 native trees to the long-term restoration strategy - to protect, enhance and restore ecosystems across the maunga. From climate-related weather events to invasive pest species - the native forest will provide landscape and biodiversity resilience for generations to come. #treesthatcount #greenbusiness #naturebasedsolutions
