The Reskill Dilemma: How AI is shaping the future of work   According to the World Economic Forum, 50% of all employees will need reskilling as artificial intelligence and automation rapidly transform industries. How prepared is your organisation for the disruption—and the opportunity—this brings?    As AI reshapes job roles and automates tasks, the future of work is evolving at an unprecedented pace. Leaders must not only adopt these technologies but also focus on equipping their workforce with the skills necessary to thrive in this new landscape.    This talk will delve into three key areas:  The impact of AI on jobs and roles: Explore how AI is transforming industries and redefining job functions.  Strategic leadership responses: Practical examples and insights into how companies are successfully navigating this shift.  The role of reskilling: Why a long-term approach to workforce development is crucial for staying competitive in an AI-driven world.    We are looking forward to this talk by Executive Dean of Business Paul Ballantine and MBA Director Elsamari Botha on the 31st of October at the Institute of Directors in New Zealand Deep dive lunch. If you are a member of the Institute, do come along! Link to the event here: https://lnkd.in/gbEcHFkh

This from one of the contestants: “We gained far more from the experience than we anticipated. The process has not only boosted our confidence, but also allowed us to apply many of the skills and lessons we've been learning in our courses. Our result is truly a testament to the high-quality program and the talented lecturers we are fortunate to learn from.” Well done Sarah Velluppillai, Jared Kleinjan, Grace Little and James Mackenzie! And many thanks for your hard work in preparing for the competition. #industryrelevant #mba #leadershipdevelopment #casecompetition

Immersive Learning connecting Tourism with Sustainability 🌍 On the 20-21 September, students from our Sustainable Tourism Enterprises and Destinations course embarked on an inspiring field trip to the Waitaki Whitestone UNESCO Global Geopark. This two-day journey was a hands-on experience in developing tourism practices that benefit both the environment and local communities. The trip kicked off with a warm welcome and delicious kai at the Moeraki Boulders Café, followed by incredible storytelling from Mauriri McGlinchey of Moeraki Marae, who shared mana whenua stories tied to coastal geosites like Matakaea (Shag Point) and Kaihinaki (Moeraki Boulders). Geoscientist Sasha Morriss provided insights into the fascinating geological history of the region, highlighting the importance of interpreting these geosites for visitors. The students also connected with local tourism operators and enjoyed a fossil-hunting adventure at the Vanished World Centre. A huge thank you to the Geopark team led by Lynley Browne, Sasha and Mauriri, as well as Te Rūnanga o Moeraki, the Waitaki District Council, Mayor Gary Kircher, and everyone who made this immersive learning experience possible. #sustainabletourism #experientiallearning #SDG12 #Geoparks #Geotourism

Negotiation isn't just a skill – it's what leaders do 80% of the day! Whether it’s influencing decisions, navigating change, or driving growth, leaders are always negotiating. That’s why our recent UC MBA course on Influencing & Negotiation in International Business was a real game-changer for participants, and the culmination of much of their MBA learnings.   Patrick E.J. ROTTIERS expertly dove deep into the art of negotiation and its connection to so many critical leadership skills – self-leadership, teamwork, strategy development, public speaking and change management. It was an action-packed experience where students honed the ability to: 1. Develop and execute strategies to enter global markets. 2. Navigate the big challenges of cross-border negotiations, from cultural differences to legal hurdles. 3. Lead negotiation teams, balancing ethical and legal issues with international dynamics. 4. Master online negotiations for global deals (because the world is digital, after all). 5. Handle complex topics like Anti-Trust Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).   The feedback was fantastic and students walked away with applied, real-world skills – not just theory – ready to take their business development projects to the next level.   #Leadership #NegotiationSkills #UCMBA #BusinessLeadership #Strategy #Teamwork #InternationalBusiness #BusinessDevelopment #ExecutiveEducation

Experiential Learning in Action! This week our Hospitality Marketing and Management students were warmly welcomed at Scenic Hotel Cotswold to dive into sustainable hospitality management practices. The visit kicked off with an insightful presentation by Scenic Hotel Group’s Richard Hayman Head of Property and Environmental Policy Advisor, on the company’s sustainability strategies. This was followed by a fascinating showcase of sustainability practices at Scenic Hotel Cotswold, led by Operations Manager Hunar C. After these engaging sessions, students toured the hotel to witness sustainability in action! They’ll now take this knowledge and propose innovative sustainability practices for the hotel, which will be presented back to the Scenic Hotel Group at the end of the semester. A big thank you to Scenic Hotel Group, especially Richard, Hunar and Danielle Whitham for their support in offering valuable hands-on learning for our Bachelor of Commerce students majoring in Tourism Marketing and Management 🌍💡 #UCBusiness #TourismMarketing #ExperientialLearning #BCom #UC #SDG12 #SDG17
