It turns out Upstock might be helping solve world peace. Delusional? 🌎 𝑮𝒍𝒐𝒃𝒂𝒍 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒅𝒆 & 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 Global tensions over tariffs and trading relationships make it clear how critical good trading relationships are to global peace and prosperity. It may sound grandiose, but I don’t think it’s too lofty to say that the health of a functioning society, economy and democracy relies on good trading relationships. Poor trading relationships cause expensive, unpredictable disruptions – that increases tensions and risk, draining resources for all parties. Those disruptions quickly get amplified across the supply chain, which ultimately impacts economies and social cohesion. 🥗 ☕️ 𝑻𝒐𝒑 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒊𝒏 It’s also not an exaggeration to say that food & beverage are the most critical goods being traded. They are the only goods that all humans, everywhere across the planet need all day, every day. What could be more important than that? It might seem dull or trivial to figure out better ways to get coffee beans delivered to your local cafe or supermarket. Although, it’s not hard to imagine the threat to world peace if the coffee supply were disrupted! So it gives me an enormous sense of purpose that we’re working to improve the food & beverage supply chain, so it operates with minimal friction and minimal disruptions. 📦 𝑩𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑹𝒆𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑𝒔 In working to improve trading relationships, I’ve come to more deeply appreciate just how vital those relationships are for economic and social stability. To do it well requires systems that ensure accuracy, transparency, reliability, and efficiency at every step of the relationship – connecting, communicating, transacting, and delivering goods. That’s how you achieve better trading relationships. As we’ve seen, good trading relationships are essential to global peace and prosperity. Removing friction and waste across the global supply chain is also critical for sustaining a liveable planet, something else that’s critical to world peace. That is our purpose at Upstock. 2024 was 𝒘𝒆𝒊𝒓𝒅. But overall in the end, it was a wonderful year. 🚀 Wonderful because Upstock hit several major targets and milestones, including doubling our growth year-on-year. Again. While reducing our burn rate over 30%. 😢 Weird because reducing our burn rate meant we had to say goodbye to a few of our highly talented, dedicated team – which was an extraordinarily hard decision to make. 🙌 Wonderful because those awesome and talented people didn’t have any issues landing great new roles. 😰 Weird because the NZ economy had a very rough year. Government austerity measures have taken a major toll, especially in Wellington. It forced several of our customers to close their doors, which is extremely upsetting. We know it’s been a very tough slog for many people and their businesses, not just in NZ but AU too, and around the world. 🏅 Wonderful because our NPS score is nearly 80%. Our customers are passionate and vocal about the value Upstock delivers. Our customers report – and our data shows – customers are able to fill orders 80% faster, massively cutting admin costs and getting paid faster. That’s a huge efficiency gain. When you add in the accuracy gains – reducing order error rates from 30% to near 0% – that eliminates an enormous amount of expensive mistakes. It all adds up to very significant cost reductions – which is why Upstock is so popular and continues to grow exponentially. 💨 Weird because our business and the entire food & beverage industry has faced compounding headwinds, year after year. For Upstock, it’s been nonstop headwinds ever since we launched. Covid in 2020. Supply chain disruptions in 2021. Omicron is 2022. Major weather events in 2023. Inflation and recession in 2024. 💵 Wonderful because, despite all those headwinds, many of our customers continue to generate a strong uptick in sales. Growth in sales that comes from existing customers ordering more products, more frequently, thanks to Upstock making it so easy to restock.
