We are making changes to improve how building qualifications work for learners and employers. The Building Pathways project proposes the introduction of micro-credentials alongside existing qualifications, making it easier to recognise progress, specialise, and adapt to industry needs. A key part of this work is the development of new Carpentry Skill Standards, ensuring consistency and quality across training providers. March 8 is International Women's Day - a celebration of the achievements of women. This year let's take another step towards supporting and empowering women across construction and infrastructure by recognising and rewarding the great work they do. There's plenty of research and examples out there that show diversity is good for business, particularly the bottom line. Have your say on a new backflow device testing micro-credential! We’re developing a micro-credential for backflow device testing, ensuring plumbers, water supply professionals, fire systems engineers and those holding IQP SS7 status can demonstrate their competence in keeping our water supply safe. Why does this matter? Because backflow prevention devices protect clean water from contamination. Testing these devices is a critical skill, and this new micro-credential and unit standards will formally recognise this expertise. The draft unit standards and micro-credential summary are open for feedback until 31 March 2025. We're excited to announce the development of NEW SKILL STANDARDS for the CARPENTRY industry, focusing on levels 3 and 4. These standards aim to guide learners from basic to advanced skills, enhancing flexibility and transferability in their career pathways. They will be integral to all carpentry programmes, ensuring alignment with industry-valued competencies and the Carpentry Licence Class under the Licensed Building Practitioner Scheme by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).   We invite industry professionals to provide feedback on these draft skill standards.
