Te Ara Tukutuku project is regenerating the northern end of Wynyard Point to create a thriving new waterfront destination for the people of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. The vision for Te Ara Tukutuku is to create a living green open space sitting on Te Waitematā - a space to reconnect and rebind the relationship between Tangaroa (the ocean) and Papatūānuku (Mother Earth), connecting people back to the water. This ground-breaking project will deliver the largest new open space in the city centre in 100 years, through a regenerative design process informed by the design concepts of ‘healing, forming and cultivating’. WAM is proud to be part of ‘Toi Waihanga’ design consortium, working in a unique collaborative partnership with lead agency Eke Panuku Development Auckland and Mana Whenua to deliver one of the most important regeneration projects in the city. In the latest print issue of ArchitectureNZ Magazine, architect Matthew Webby explores the expressive curves, the sustainability and seismic credentials, and the carefully curated work and teaching spaces of the award-winning agricultural science facility, designed by Warren and Mahoney and Lab-works Architecture. “As you wander around, it's clear that this is a building that people want to use. While science breakthroughs may happen in the lab or out in the field, they are equally a result of the collaborations, reflections and conversations that occur when you bring experts together," writes Matthew. "It’s examples like this that serve as pivotal exemplars that draw people together, allow for collaboration away from a screen and provide role-modelling for the next generation; this is science on display.” View the full article on ArchitectureNow here: https://lnkd.in/gUb5EFqF Lab-works Architecture Ltd

A story of collaboration and cultural connection. In partnership with Aurecon, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei and Te Aroha Grace, we brought to life a workspace shaped by te ao Māori, embodying both Aurecon’s innovative spirit and the deep heritage of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. The result is The Curious Adventurer—a narrative that intricately weaves together people, place, and purpose.   WAM Principal and Te Matakīrea Design Lead, Whare Timu shares his reflections on this meaningful collaboration.

WAM Principal Nick Deans recently had the privilege of participating in The Fifth Estate's ‘Let’s Hack Housing’ event, where some of the brightest minds in housing, design, and urban planning came together to tackle one of the most pressing issues of our time: the housing crisis. The robust debates and discussions we engaged in were a clear reminder that there is no single, simple solution to this complex problem. Instead, it requires a multi-pronged approach that involves both the public and private sectors working in concert. "At its core, the answer to the housing crisis seems straightforward - improving housing supply. But the real challenge lies in the details of how we make it happen," says Nick. "We must focus on enabling the conditions that allow for the creation of more housing, both through new construction and by making better use of the resources and buildings we already have. We have the ideas and expertise to make real progress, but now is the time to turn good thinking into good actions." View more: https://lnkd.in/ghb7AJFT

The new Queenstown Sports Performance Centre, The Mill, is looking sharp on site as construction progresses at pace. Designed by Warren and Mahoney, The Mill will deliver a world-class, integrated sports and fitness training and recovery facility aimed at supporting a broad spectrum of needs, from community to elite athletes. WAM Project Principal Ian Adamson says the hub not only seamlessly integrates within its Queenstown landscape, but also serves as a model for sustainable and health-conscious architecture. “We’ve designed a mass-timber building that prioritises passive ventilation and maximises natural daylight, addressing carbon efficiency and health and wellbeing. The use of mass timber allows us to achieve a dynamic floor plan and flexible spaces, ensuring the facility fulfils its broad range of functional requirements, while setting a standard for sustainable design.” “Queenstown is already a popular base for international athletes across a range of disciplines - but access to a facility of this quality, and with this level of world-class professional care and equipment, will encourage them to stay longer, impacting significantly on our local economy,” says our client, Peter Forch. A huge thank you to all who joined us last night in our Sydney studio for our Let's Hack Housing event alongside The Fifth Estate.   We thoroughly enjoyed the robust debate, critical thinking and innovative ideas to solve our housing crisis from our expert panel of speakers and members of our community. While there is still much to be discussed - the time to act is now.   Key ideas: ▫ Increase social housing investment. Commit to a minimum and prioritise it. ▫ Review planning controls to enable more efficiencies which can be passed onto consumers. ▫ Through planning, encourage diverse housing types through zoning and regulations. ▫ Address workforce shortages, promote career paths and work life balance for greater diversity within our construction industry. ▫ Promote innovation, diversity of housing stock and unlock efficiencies.  ▫ Housing is a human right. We need to shift the narrative away from housing as a commodity. We look forward to continuing this conversation. A special thanks to our speakers: Nick Deans, Tim S. Jess Miller Nicole Gurran Fabrizio Perilli Brian Seidler Liam Wallis Cathryn Callaghan Michael Comninos Tim Williams Craig Kerslake Wiradjuri Nation Michael Pascoe Maria Atkinson AM Tina Perinotto

WAM’s new Sydney studio, located in Sydney’s vibrant, historic, city-side hotspot Tallawoladah, The Rocks, has been designed to enable our people to thrive, host, showcase creativity, and express our values and culture of working together.   Respecting and celebrating the building’s heritage characteristics and planning for future growth, has driven a loose-fit approach to our workspace. Staying true to our commitment toward responsible and sustainable design, almost all of our existing furniture was re-purposed, working closely with the manufacturers to refurbish and reconfigure.   WAM Principal Tamara White says the move has brought new creative energy to our studio.   “By minimising the built space, celebrating the building’s heritage, and prioritising the multifunctional heart of the space with the best view out to the Sydney Harbour Bridge, we’ve created a high-performing, dynamic, creative space. A space where everything is possible.”   We look forward to welcoming you soon!
