With perfect weather, 40Ha of our new Springs vineyard development was planted out recently. This is a spectacular site with its own valley, extending back into the ranges that divide the Wairau from the Waihopai Valleys. This is an important site for Whitehaven, not only for future fruit supply, but also because we have bold revegetation and regeneration plans, with an initial riparian planting of close to 10,000 trees completed earlier this year. #whitehavenwines #nzwine #marlboroughnz #sustainablyled

Whitehaven's Dan Du competed at the Marlborough Young Viticulturist 2024 Competition, and was awarded the @ormondnurseries Professional Reputation Award, or as we like to think of it, the ‘being a good human’ award! In receiving the award Dan was recognised for displaying integrity throughout the day in her actions and in her interactions with her fellow competitors. Congratulations also to the top three competitors who were Anna Kelland in 1st (Constellation), Liv Bishop in 2nd (Delegat/Oyster Bay) and Laura Hammond in 3rd (Babich). Great stuff Dan! It was a huge effort, and we hope you are as proud of your efforts as everyone at Whitehaven is of you. Dan pictured during the Hortisports competition. #nzwine #marlboroughwine #marlboroughnz

After the hot, dry summer that Marlborough has experienced water use is more important than ever. Water efficiency is one of our key sustainability challenge areas, which is why we have made a few changes in our vineyards by: ✔ Employing soil moisture probes on at least 50% of company land to measure moisture levels, ensuring water is only added when it is needed. ✔ Increasingly using sub-surface irrigation to help prevent evaporation, to avoid watering competing vegetation, and ensure water gets to the root zone as needed. The video below shows sub surface irrigation being installed at Whitehaven's Beverley Hills Vineyard in the Wairau Valley.

The 2023 Imported Wine Hot Brands list for the USA has been announced and Whitehaven is thrilled to have received a “Wine Hot Brand’ award for an imported wine brand. The Wine Hot Brand award recognises Whitehaven’s double-digit growth in the USA market during 2023, and is the 8th consecutive year Whitehaven has made the list. This win reinforces Whitehaven's continued success in the ultra-premium wine category in the USA. We are thrilled and thankful to have appeared on the list each year since 2016. #whitehavenwines

This Friday 29 March (Good Friday) a small group of Marlborough Méthode Traditionnelle producers will celebrate Méthode Marlborough Day. This day is held on the last Friday of every March and is an opportunity to toast the close of the Marlborough sparkling grape harvest (which occurs earlier than that of the still wine harvest). Coincidentally, yesterday, we disgorged our 2020 'Samantha' Méthode Traditionnelle, the second release of this limited production Chardonnay/Pinot Noir bubbles (chardonnay dominant). While we won't be officially releasing our 'Samantha' Méthode for another few months we did have the opportunity to try it straight off the line, and after 36 months on lees in the bottle it is already tasting beautifully brioche, and toasty delicious. We can't wait to share it with you all later in the year. Sam White, for who our 'Samantha' bubbles is named, was thrilled to be present for the disgorging and to have the opportunity to better understand the intricate process from Lee, the bottling production manager.
