At WILNZ, we are always striving to provide better access for a diverse range of voices, and we're mindful that some of the different types of WIL stakeholders may have had less experience with presenting at academic conferences. Your voices and learned experiences are no less valid, and we want to support you in being able to present! Our powerhouse research committee is hosting a webinar on the 14th of November, 12pm NZDT covering the essentials of abstract writing, your first step towards presenting at conference. Come join Kylie Taffard EdD (ConCOVE Tūhura), Patricia Lucas (Auckland University of Technology) and Raewyn Tudor (University of Canterbury) and take the first steps towards becoming one of our #WILNZConference2025 presenters! Did you miss the recent livestream of the CRADLE International Symposium panel on how generative AI could change work-integrated learning? Never fear! A recording was made of this insightful panel event, and thanks to Professor Margaret Bearman and the generous team at Deakin University, WILNZ is privileged to be able to share this with our community. Well worth the watch!
Last week, Jack Walton and I hosted the 2024 CRADLE symposium at @Deakin University! A small group of wonderful scholars worked intensively together over three days to explore how work-integrated learning might change in a time of generative AI. We were particularly interested in placements and learning ‘on the job’ in situ - and how genAI was simultaneously affecting the world of work and the work of being a student! We collectively explored, conceptualised and debated the intersections between generative AI, higher education, and workplace learning. Our wonderful guests from Canada and the UK included: Dave Cormier, Michael Tomlinson & Rola Ajjawi. Australians included Bonnie Amelia Dean, Franziska Trede and the inimitable Simon Buckingham Shum! See the panel discussion is at: https://lnkd.in/g4_xdAdC #CRADLE #REDI Phillip Dawson, Thomas Corbin, Joanna Tai, David Boud, Kelli Nicola-RIchmond, David Eckstein, Carlo Perrotta, Susie Macfarlane, David Farrugia, Helen Partridge, Elizabeth Johnson, Nicole Crawford

Where there's WIL, there is risk (and reward)! We were delighted to see this post from former WILNZ Conference Chair Clare Murray (University of Canterbury) in Times Higher Education. "Work-integrated learning (the “WIL” of the title) is considered integral for students’ skills, employment prospects and understanding of the world of work, but its expansion is not without risk. In prioritising WIL, universities must balance the demands of students and employers, government education agencies’ focus on work-ready graduates, and expectations of other stakeholders with protections against, for example, personal injury or reputational harm." #throwbackthursday - as the second academic period of the year winds down for most of us, it's a time to be reflective and plan for 2025. Gen Z in the work force is a topical issue for those of us working in the WIL space - check out this fantastic October 2023 podcast episode created by University of Waterloo featuring David Drewery, PhD. The discussion about what Gen Z value, and how work-integrated learning can help with this is particularly insightful. https://lnkd.in/gDEK7wPm #genz #workintegratedlearning #cooperativeeducation #futureofwork #studentagency

Where in the world is #WILNZ president Karsten Zegwaard? We've been avidly following his journey as he joined our African counterparts at the WIL Africa Conference 2024 held by SASCE in Cape Town, South Africa. #workintegratedlearning is such a global community, and it's great to be able to have some of these face-to-face opportunities. #cooperativeeducation #researchbasedevidence #SASCE #futureofwork #transformativeeducation
Was a privilege to be able to run a research workshop and present at the 5th WIL Africa Conference 2024 in Cape Town. More than 180 people attended the conference and there was a real energetic buzz as future directions were discussed. Exciting times ahead for WIL in Africa. #SASCE, #CPUT, #WIL.
