We are thrilled to congratulate XLabs graduate Jade Hurst on the launch of Village Green - a concept she prototyped in our 2020 cohort. Village Green is a space where imaginations run wild. It is a nature-based early learning centre based in Remuera.  See more here: https://lnkd.in/g4tR9V3R Jade joined us at XLabs to explore the design challenge:  “How might circular economy principles apply to a childcare centre for the benefit of our communities and our environment?”. Her biggest insight? Nature is an invaluable teacher, so how might it be integrated into all aspects of building design, operating systems, and the curriculum? Read the case study here: https://lnkd.in/gYwTtJc7 Seeing the ideas that get developed at XLabs come to life is why we do what we do! How much do you know about the circular economy? Interestingly, in Australia, it was discovered that those who were confident in their knowledge about the circular economy concept dropped from 81 per cent in 2021 to 52 per cent*. Why was this? These results strongly align with the Dunning-Kruger effect, which explains that with complex concepts, confidence often starts high before sharply decreasing as our actual knowledge increases, before a tipping point is reached, and confidence begins to return. Reinforcing the need for more accessible and practical information on circular economy and what it entails was identified as a barrier to action by 36 per cent of survey participants. So check out the video below, featuring Joe Iles and Ellen MacArthur, to learn more about the opportunities the circular economy provides. Are you curious about the ideas, innovations and ambitions at XLabs: Future of Food? Dive into the past project from Silver Fern Farms Ltd , which worked towards the goal of creating a world where single-use plastics are a thing of the past and where we meet our needs with biobased alternatives. A team across Silver Fern Farms' business came to XLabs to explore alternative solutions for their single-use plastic waste using Circularity's circular by-design methods. They were able to shape a viable action plan, acknowledge other opportunities to create value from waste streams and develop an ecosystem of collaborators to make this a reality. The XLabs: Future of Food program provided Silver Fern Farms with the opportunity to create space for collaborative collisions, imaginative innovation, and tangible progress, enabling their team to design a regenerative and circular future for Aotearoa's agricultural and horticultural communities.
