🧐 Yes, periods are a plastic pollution issue. Every menstruator deserves the right to choose period products that are safe—not only for their body but also for the planet. Conventional menstrual pads can be made up of up to 90% plastic, and many period products are filled with toxic chemicals that harm both our health and the environment. 🩸🚫 It's time to demand healthier, sustainable periods—for ourselves and for our environment. Last week, across the #BreakFreeFromPlastic movement, members joined forces to support #EnvironmenstrualWeek, advocating for safe, eco-friendly period products for everyone. Find out more with Wen (Women's Environmental Network) and be part of the change. 🌟 #BreakUpWithToxicPeriods #PeriodPower #BreakFreeFromPlastic #WeChooseReuse #Environmenstrual

The global movement envisioning a future free from plastic pollution.
Tungkol sa amin
#breakfreefromplastic (BFFP) is a global movement envisioning a future free from plastic pollution. Since its launch in 2016, more than 2,000 organizations and 11,000 individual supporters from across the world have joined the movement to demand massive reductions in single-use plastics and push for lasting solutions to the plastic pollution crisis. BFFP member organizations and individuals share the shared values of environmental protection and social justice and work together through a holistic approach to bring about systemic change. This means tackling plastic pollution across the whole plastics value chain—from extraction to disposal—focusing on prevention rather than cure and providing effective solutions.

For several weeks, communities across the U.S. South — many of whom were already on the front lines of the plastics and petrochemical industry — have faced a wave of industrial disasters, flooding, hurricanes, etc. often at the same time. This is all happening at the nexus of the climate crisis, the plastics crisis, and the labor crisis, where the lives of industrial workers are deemed disposable for the sake of corporate profits. By looking at some of these recent disasters, we can see how #BreakFreeFromPlastic members and allies are providing hands-on support for community members in the absence of vital government services. We can ask why the industry consistently fails to provide basic information about which chemicals are burning in their exploded pipelines and factory fires. And, of course, we can demand accountability. 👉 Click through the slides to read about some of these recent disasters.

Remember Gandhi's historic Dandi Salt March to protest excessive salt taxes? 94 years on, our salt (and sugar!) faces a new threat: microplastics. As per a Toxics Link report that studied 10 salt brands and 5 sugar brands from India, they found microplastics in ALL of the samples! Surely, that's more than enough reason to protest? The study calls for urgent, comprehensive research into the long-term health impacts of microplastics on human health. Know more: https://lnkd.in/dbgb_uds #BreakFreeFromPlastic

📣 NEW JOB ALERT Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL) is looking for 2 new people to join their team! Petrochemical production (most importantly, plastics and agrochemicals and their chemical precursors) poses an array of direct harms while providing a lifeline to fossil fuel producers and further entrenching fossil fuels in the economy. Addressing petrochemicals is therefore a key component of any global strategy to stop plastic pollution and to keep fossil fuels in the ground. We are looking for: ✅ A Global Plastics & Petrochemicals (Senior) Campaigner: https://lnkd.in/eTSk-sbf ✅ An EU Petrochemicals (Senior) Campaigner: https://lnkd.in/eBNPt6M4 LOCATION: Remote DEADLINE: November 5, 2024 #PeopleWhoPowerCIEL #Hiring #FossilEconomy

🚨 NEW STUDY found microplastics in the endometrial tissue of women with multiple miscarriages. Researchers detected microplastic in all 22 uterus samples tested, consisting of 6 different plastic polymers in colors like blue, green, and black. ⚠️⚠️ In mice, these particles were linked to reduced fertility. Previous studies have already found microplastics in lungs, blood, and even breast milk. 🫁🩸🍼 WE NEED A FUTURE FREE AND SAFE FROM PLASTIC POLLUTION. 📣🗣️ Tell @unep and the governments of the world to #BreakFreeFromPlastic by signing the Global Plastics Treaty petition 👉 https://lnkd.in/gYCSsr2C 🌿 Learn more about the study: https://lnkd.in/gMwv4XZ4 #BeatPlasticPollution #ToxicPlastics

#BreakFreeFromPlastic Global Coordinator Von Hernandez echoed the call of environmental groups for the passage of a comprehensive Single-Use Plastic Ban as an essential policy tool to stop plastic pollution by shifting corporate dependence on throwaway packaging models to more sustainable reuse and refill systems. Single-use plastic is not a clean-up problem but a pollution problem, Hernandez stressed, adding that the only way to prevent it is to stop its production and avoid using it in the first place. https://lnkd.in/gev2TJTh
