  • “In an era when society is at its most progressive specifically in terms of gender equality and women empowerment, one might think the gender gap doesn’t exist. However, the reality is that women entrepreneurs are continuing to face financial constraints in one way or another.” Despite progress, the gender gap remains a persistent issue in many areas of society, including at home, the workplace, and in education. Financial inclusion is a significant challenge for women entrepreneurs, who often have limited access to financial services and products. In Southeast Asia, 66% of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are women-led, yet 80% of these businesses are inadequately supported by formal financial institutions, according to the UN. Women entrepreneurs face more obstacles than men in accessing loans and equity investments, hindering their potential to scale up their businesses. 💡 Check out Closing the Gender Finance Gap: Mapping the Opportunity for Gender Lens Investing in the Philippines – a special report by Villgro Philippines, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation / 公益財団法人 笹川平和財団, Investing in Women, and the Gender Lens and Impact Investment Council (GIIC).
