#HumansOfIDinsight | “As a third-generation Kenyan-Indian, born and raised in Nairobi, my journey with social impact started in high school. At 15, I co-led a project to build a sand dam in Machakos, a semi-arid region in Kenya. This project provided clean water access to 1,000 people, and what stuck with me was seeing the immediate impact on the community—especially for girls who no longer had to walk miles to collect water and could focus on their education instead. It was a powerful experience that evidenced how simple, practical, and need-based solutions can make a real difference. Since then, I have been drawn to projects that empower communities. This curiosity led me to study Civil Engineering, focusing on Urbanization at NYU. Over the years, I have worked on engagements ranging from designing chimneys in Dharavi, India, to reduce air pollution to exploring how reducing medical waste in hospitals in the U.S. can lower healthcare costs. Each experience taught me how fusing policy and engineering, overlaid with community insight, can solve everyday challenges. At IDinsight, I am grateful to continue that journey. Most recently, I have been part of a team that examines how data can help drive better decision-making in sanitation and hygiene programming across Kenya. It’s exciting to work on something that has a direct impact on improving health outcomes for local communities. Being at IDinsight means working with people who share my passion for large-scale social change across different sectors, whether it’s agriculture, health, or WASH. Every day brings a new challenge, but it is also a chance to grow and continue doing what I love—empowering communities and improving lives,” shares Dhruvi Joshi. --- Dhruvi is an Associate at IDinsight based in Nairobi, Kenya. 🇰🇪 📌 Learn more about our work in Kenya here: https://lnkd.in/gBDGSfEU

🧑🏽🏫 September means back to school! A good time to highlight the evaluation of the FID-funded remedial education programme aimed at improving the basic academic skills of pupils in Morocco. 🇲🇦 Despite an enrolment rate of 95.1% for children aged 7 to 12, significant learning gaps remain in Morocco. In 2016, 64% of fourth-grade students still had deficits in reading. The Ministry of National Education, Pre-school Education and Sports, commissioned Fondation Sanady, in partnership with IDinsight, to lead an evaluation of the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) remedial education programme. 📍 This pilot project, targeting 31,500 students in 200 schools in the regions of Casablanca-Settat, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra and Souss-Massa 👧🏽👦🏽, aims to compare the cost-effectiveness of the TaRL programme - which groups students by learning level rather than age or grade - with the traditional programme run by Fondation Sanady for the past 10 years with primary and secondary pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds. As part of a public policy transformation grant funded by FID, this evaluation will help the authorities to scale up the most effective remedial education programme. 📅 The intervention will take place from May 2024 to May 2025. ➡️ Find out more about this project: https://lnkd.in/eFqXt8sh
