Dr.-Ing. Syrus Borja Gomari, Founder and CEO, Mobility Vision+ discussed how traffic is a leading cause of air pollution in the Philippines, emphasizing the need for a shift from vehicle-oriented traffic management to people-centered mobility planning. He pointed out that the country’s dense urban populations face challenges due to car-centric cities, where public transport, despite its potential, is often underutilized. Through co-creation with local government units (LGUs), sustainable smart mobility solutions can transform city planning, yet the process is hindered by slow planning, lack of technical capacity, and expensive tools at the local level. Dr. Gomari highlighted how innovations like Seermo simplify transport planning by enabling faster data collection through technologies such as CCTV and portable cameras, which leads to quicker, data-driven decision-making. He also introduced MoVi, a product designed to reduce the time needed for sustainable mobility planning from years to hours, aligning it with the city budget cycle. His vision is to design transportation systems that cater to future needs, not just current traffic problems, ensuring that cities are more liveable, sustainable, and people-friendly. This Lab was made possible through our partnership with Globe Business and League of Cities of the Philippines. #FutureReadyCities #LiveableCitiesPH #TechReadyCities

Ethel Garcia, Regional Account Manager for Southeast Asia and Oceania at Clarity, highlighted the devastating impact of air pollution, which caused 8.1 million deaths globally in 2021, including 700,000 children under five. In the Philippines, air pollution results in 60,000 premature deaths annually and an estimated economic loss of ₱4.5 trillion. The primary culprit is ambient PM2.5, a harmful pollutant. To address this, Clarity provides integrated air quality monitoring solutions featuring resilient, cellular-connected sensors. These technologies empower cities to take data-driven actions, advancing progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 11 and cleaner air. Clarity’s impact is evident in cities like Quezon City, where their solutions have guided targeted policies and fostered public engagement to improve air quality. While challenges like scaling and ensuring data reliability persist, growing partnerships between public and private sectors are driving meaningful efforts to reduce air pollution and enhance urban liveability. This Lab was made possible through our partnership with Globe Business and League of Cities of the Philippines. #FutureReadyCities #LiveableCitiesPH #TechReadyCities
