10 weeks went by and it is time for a fond farewell to Michaël Picard – our current Engineering apprentice. Moving to the UK as part of the international mobility requirement for his Master's in Engineering, Michael joined the Markem-Imaje Thermal Transfer Product Division under the supervision of Sam Achamfuo-Yeboah. Previously, he had 2 years of experience working in the Markem-Imaje Continuous Inkjet Product Division in Bourg-les-Valence, France. "The language barrier was daunting at first”, Michael reflected, “but with the support of the team, I quickly gained confidence in my English and felt a sense of comfort. I appreciate how the team gave me space to explore my interests and always offered help when I needed it. Special thanks to Sam and Steve Coates, who helped me learn new technologies and shared valuable feedback with weekly check-ins. The close-knit community helped me settle in quickly and the flexibility at work really made me feel like I could contribute meaningfully. I enjoyed my time at Markem-Imaje Nottingham and look forward to the next time I can come back here”. During the last 2 months, Michael worked on several exciting projects while experiencing the importance of teamwork, learning real-life skills, and seeing his contributions appreciated. Adjusting to a new environment in such a short time brought its own set of challenges, but Michael surely embraced them head-on with determination and a positive attitude. At Markem-Imaje, we are welcoming young talents like Michael who are eager to make a meaningful kick-off in their early careers to join the company every year. We will be at the Global Produce and Floral Show in Atlanta, Georgia, US from 17-19 October. The event is one of the world’s largest such events and is organized by the International Fresh Produce Association. Mike has acquired incredible accomplishments throughout his career with his knowledge and expertise in the industry. It has been a pleasure to have Mike on the team at Markem-Imaje, where he was instrumental in developing and shaping the success of the Print and Apply system. 🗨️ Sharing with us his thoughts on such a milestone, here is what Mike said: “The years have passed with real pace and despite the fundamental requirement of ‘identifying something’ the coding industry has advanced tremendously. For example, back in the early 1980’s the barcode was in its infancy and although used it was not widespread and certainly not as omnipresent, today we are seeing a further revolution with GS1 Data Link and all that the associated technology can bring, bring both suppliers and end users alike. I spent my formative years within other organizations, but a sizeable portion of my industry tenure has been within Markem-Imaje, a company that employs great people and actively encourages innovation and forward-thinking, I am looking forward to many more years of exciting changes”.
