#play14 - a community of Serious Game-based Learning Practitioners - was ignited here in India. We proudly hosted the first-ever #play14 UNCONFERENCE in Bengaluru from April 19-21, 2024, and it was an absolute blast. As one of the volunteer hosts, I was thrilled to witness the event unfold from ideation to actualization. With over 50 registered participants and a marketing budget of zero rupees, we are deeply grateful for the trust and enthusiasm shown by everyone towards both us and the #play14 community. A heartfelt thank you to our #play14 alumni from Malaysia and the Philippines—Sufiz Mohd Suffian, Raziah (Raz) Md Razak Md Darwin Sy Antipolo —for joining us and enriching the experience. Over the course of 2.5 days, employing #OpenSpaceTechnology, we facilitated nearly 36 concurrent sessions—all designed, selected, and delivered by the participants themselves. The diversity of toolkits showcased was truly remarkable, ranging from board games and LEGO blocks to psychodrama, role-plays, theatre, improv, and more. It was 2.5 days of serious play—immensely enjoyable yet profoundly impactful. I'm optimistic that this #play14 community will revolutionize the learning landscape in India in the years ahead. Of course, there were challenges and shortcomings along the way, and I extend my gratitude to all the participants for their kindness, support, and resilience. A special thank you to OpenText for graciously offering us space and unwavering support throughout.
