It's the last day of the GAME 2024: The Now, the New, the Next Expo! Our TechKnow Session moderated by Grow Asia Head of Programs Chrissa "Borj" Borja highlighted emerging technologies for agriculture advancements. Speakers from DOST-PAGASA, Anihan Technologies, and University of the Philippines Los Baños' AquaSave and CAPHE shared how their technologies can help address the challenges in the agriculture sector. The presentations and the panel discussion highlighted: ⛅ DOST-PAGASA presented their farm weather services. During the panel, DOST-PAGASA mentioned that weather and climate information is crucial in order for farmers to be aided in their daily farm operations and decision-making, especially during typhoons and droughts. This is important for farmers' resilience in terms of agricultural practices and overall livelihoods. 📲 Anihan Technology gave an overview of their startup and how their business involves actionable insights from pre-harvest to post-harvest. In the panel discussion, Anihan highlighted challenges in internet connectivity affects agri-tech startups and digital platforms in the Philippines—if both the private and the public sector does not address this connectivity problem, digitizing agriculture will be a challenge. 💧 UPLB's AquaSave presented their research findings on the reduction of water evaporation rate in rice fields and reservoir. They shared that water evaporation retardants can have a large impact in terms of climate resilience, especially during the dry season. In the panel discussion, AquaSave shared that like other agricultural inventions, support from the government is needed to disseminate and capacitate farmers in using their technology. ☕ Lastly, UPLB's Coffee Application Harvest Estimator (CAPHE) presented their mobile application that facilitates coffee monitoring even without internet connectivity. During the panel, CAPHE emphasized that simple interfaces can help improve app useability among farmers, enabling them to learn more about their crops. CAPHE also highlighted the importance of field trials and feedbacks so that they can come up with better mobile applications. Each of these technologies highlights the power of data-driven, climate-resilient solutions to drive progress in agriculture. These tools create a collaborative ecosystem of digital solutions aimed at fostering a sustainable and resilient agriculture sector. #NowNewNext | #Agribusiness | #GAMEExpo2024

✨ 🔴 AT THE MOMENT: PPSA Country Director Angel Bautista shares the Philippines findings of the ASEAN Green Recovery through Equity and Empowerment (AGREE) Project at the GAME 2024: The Now, the New, the Next Conference. 🌽 In her presentation, Angel highlighted the barriers in the corn value chain, such as gaps between policies and practice, women corn growers being exposed to various health risks, and the absence of mechanisms to measure GHG emissions at the country level. She also emphasized that there are opportunities in factoring gender-specific risks, knowledge transfer among farmers, and securing mechanisms to measure GHG emissions. 👩🌾 The AGREE Project emphasizes gender-responsive approaches in agriculture, aiming for a greener and more equitable future. Key focus areas include promoting climate-smart solutions, encouraging inclusive practices in agribusiness, and empowering women farmers as climate champions. 📌 To learn more about the AGREE Project, visit: https://lnkd.in/g-5XiUkS -- AGREE is an initiative supported by the Canadian government through the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and implemented by Grow Asia in Cambodia, the Philippines, and Viet Nam. The project demonstrates how COVID-19 recovery can be both gender- and climate-responsive. It tests pilot interventions with corporate partners and informs policy-making to champion women as agents for climate action. #GrowHer | #GreenRecovery | #WomenInAgri | #Sustainability | #AGREEProject | #Agribusiness | #WomenEmpowerment
